Re: Ethernet splitter question
That's not going to do it, you're going to need a router/switch.

The PS3 has built-in wireless doesn't it?Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists Association -
Re: Ethernet splitter question
PS3 has built in wifi, but it is a rather weak G type. However PS3 has a gigabyte nic, so therefore I recommend everybody with a PS3 just use a cat6se cord directly to it. Get a way faster speed.Comment

Re: Ethernet splitter question
I'm looking into one of those, as well. I have my 360 and my Slingbox I'd like to connect from one Airport Express that's extending my wifi.
I know that I'd need a(nother) router for more robust networking (IE if I'd like both to function simultaneously), but what if I don't need them on at the same time? Will one of these splitters do the trick?Comment

Re: Ethernet splitter question
I've got NETGEAR wireless, but I'm not going to have it long as I'm giving it to my son. That's why I need some type of ethernet splitter so that I can run 2 cables into my modem, which only has one ethernet plug now.
I have a HP PC, with Vista.Comment

Re: Ethernet splitter question
just be cheaper to buy a router, if you not ever going to use wireless, just buy a wired router or switch.Comment

Re: Ethernet splitter question
Your modem likely doesn't support multiple devices. Just get a replacement router and save yourself an enormous headache.
Don't get a wired-only router. Not only would you have to spend as much (or more) but then you won't have the wireless available for the future if need be.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Ethernet splitter question
Well if he wants to watch MLB tv on his PS3, the only way he could do that wireless with no lag is with a N router. And being that PS3 don't have built in wireless N, he would have to buy an N adapter for his PS3.
Dual band, using the 5ghz channel would be the ideal way to go. However that would get pricey, the dual band router itself would be $180 and the dual band card would be $80.
He could just use a regular 2.4ghz N router, which he could get for about $100 and get an N adapter for around $50 or $60.Comment

Re: Ethernet splitter question
Who the heck needs a 1,000 ft of cable ? Unless you going from upstairs to downstairs. But I know on newegg you can get a 100ft cat6e cable for $17. Which is plenty of length to go from one room to another.Comment
