Hulu Plus... Invite, anyone?

In case you haven't heard, Hulu is offering a premium subscription service for $10/mon. Called Hulu Plus, it will allow you to see (supposedly) a slew of content on mobile devices.

And yes, it still has ads. Pretty sad.

Either way, I'd like to know if someone has an invite they are willing to share. I might just check it out for a few months and see how it goes compared to Netflix.

It'll come free with XBL, which is awesome. I wouldn't pay for the service, but I'll use the hell out of it on the 360. I might even cancel my satellite finally, there's almost no reason to keep it active except for HD feeds of things... but the 360 looks so nice with these shows I won't miss it much. Sports are the only thing keeping my subscription to Dish active really... and ADTHE + NBA League Pass Broadband + an antenna for local HD feeds might be enough for me there.

It'll be $10 per month on either console.
You'll need a Gold (paid) account on xbox
Also rumor that on PS3 it may be limited to PSN+ members.

Er, I just re-read the announcement and apparently it'll be more like Netflix where you'll have to have the Hulu Plus subscription to access the content via XBL (Gold only). Sorry for the false alarm. I thought it was gonna be free... won't be paying $10/month for Hulu when I can get anything I want for free elsewhere and can watch all the new episodes or shows on regular Hulu. They really should've gotten rid of the ads for the permium service... seems kinda weak when they're charging basically as much as NetFlix for a service that's online-only.

No. They don't stream anything live at all. Forget that I already have netflix and if they going to have ads, why the hell are we paying $10 a month ? If you paying money, your service should be ad free.

I got the invite the other day and am gonna check this out. I don't like the idea of paying to be a part of a beta while still being subjected to ads, but my curiosity is still getting the better of me.

Just got my invite as well. Holding out a bit.

Are there more shows available than the ones shown on the preview page? I'm interested in knowing when they'll add the rest of House.

Here's the advantage (for me): They have some shows that I can watch instantly. Netflix has Instant Watch, but not all shows can be watched instantly. If I want to watch all of House, I have to rent each DVD, wait for them, etc. With Hulu Plus, I can just turn it on.

If their library is huge, I think it is worth it. trobinson, how many old shows do you see?

As far as old shows go, there looks to be 285 titles as far as I can see (16 shows per page, 18 pages, 13 titles on last page). There are another 49 titles on the current season ticket. I don't know how that sounds to you but as I browse through them, the selections are not really all that impressive.


Just read that I'd have to have the Playstation Plus service to use this with my PS3. That's not happening. So far, I'm really underwhelmed.

I will say that their anime collection isn't too bad, it actually makes up about 40% of the total number of archived titles.

Anything really old like Fresh Prince of Bel-Air old? (Sad to call that really old but it is).

That's what I want to see on this as well. If I had a collection of those shows at my fingertips along with shows from the 2000s then I'll consider it. It seems like only shows made in the last 10 years are available.

No Fresh Prince episodes, just clips. There is a link though that takes you to where you can buy the dvds though. Really, the selection is pretty poor.

There is some older stuff, you got Dragnet, old Battlestar Galactica, 21 Jumpstreet and what have you. It's just that the stuff they have just happens to be stuff I'm not all that interested in seeing for the most part.

The quality on this is spectacular. Most of the time you can't even tell it's streaming to your iPhone.
