To be fair, Affleck's writing credits (Good Will Hunting/Gone Baby Gone) and lone film directorial credit (Gone Baby Gone) were very good. The fact that he's actually IN the movie, though, worries me because he's not very good as an actor.

But it's a movie that takes place in Massachusetts, Jeremy Renner and Hamm are good, and as I said Affleck hit Gone Baby Gone out of the park, so I'll see it.

      Re: The Town

eh, Affleck gets a bad rap because of the years he spent in the limelight w/ Jen and taking bad "blockbuster" roles... I mean, I won't say he's a great actor, but I don't think he's as bad as people like to say he is. I'm not sure he's ever really had a role where he played a character that was well written or had any depth... which is his fault for picking bad parts (half of acting is picking the right roles imo), but I'm not sure anyone could have made some of those movies good

as for his actual eye for movie making, I have always thought it was quite good... like I said, I think he let the celebrity go to his head after his early success, but as a writer and director, he has tons of talent (and he seems to have gotten his head out of his *** again). Now I guess we'll find out if he can act when he puts himself in a position to actually succeed

I don't think he's that bad either and he's being compared to a younger Clint Eastwood on the directorial front. Remember when they said Clint couldn't act?

The movie is getting a 93% on the Tomatometer, and from the 8 or so reviews I've read it misses greatness with it's last half hour and the romance between Ben and the girl.

Saw it today...Overall a really solid film.

Sometimes you can feel like the film is just trying too hard to bigger than it is...they don't quite hit all the right notes on the main plot but that's more about playing them clumsily at certian points.

Affleck was fine as an actor. Not too obtrusive as a director...though the workout montage was just kinda strange.

            Saw this movie tonight.

Acting: B. Affleck is good. Hamm is excellent. Renner is very good. Couple of supporting roles that are weak.
Storyline: B- Suspenseful, but a bit predictable. Jumps around toward the beginning.
Action Scenes: A. Really well done chases and shootouts.
Overall: B- Enjoyed it and was entertained, even though I've seen similar movies before.

I saw this with the fiance' tonight, hell of a movie! One of the best I've seen this year.

Like mentioned before, actions scenes were legit and I'd probably have to say that this is one my favorite Affleck movies of All Time. (Loved Gone, Baby Gone)

I would agree with this assessment. Solid film, I was a little underwhelmed with the ending. Overall I thought Gone Baby Gone was much better, so did the 4 other people I saw it with.

It's definitely worth a viewing though, it was entertaining.

When I first saw the trailers for this, I was completely skeptical just because Affleck's in it. But seeing some reviews makes me really want to watch this.

                    Re: The Town

Also for some reason the trailers made Renner's acting/boston accent seem bad, at least to me. I have to admit though his accent and acting were absolutely spot on. Hamm and Renner ended up stealing the show acting wise, although even Ben's acting was good enough.

This movie looks interesting to me but i'm skeptical because of Affleck, nonetheless the reviews here seem to be very positive. This could be one of those situations where an actor is better as a director instead of being in front of the screen.

I'll have to give this one a peek when I can.

My second favorite movie of the year.

I really did think it was amazing. Jeremy Renner was so damn good throughout the movie.

Renner, Hamm, Affleck, Lively, Postlethwaite, pretty much every actor on the cast put on great performances, IMO.

One of my favorite movies of the year only behind Inception and Shutter Island. Ben Affleck does not dissapoint as an actor or director. This movie is just as good as Gone Baby Gone.

I love movies based in Boston, and Ben Affleck knocks it out of the park again. Everything was spot on, the accents were perfect. I enjoyed this movie throughout, could of done without the romance part of it, but it didn't hurt the movie.

Just an awesome movie, I want to see it again.

Yeah, I liked it considerably better than either of those movies.

You're right, Affleck's contribution to this movie as an actor and director is unquestionable.

I was expecting the last 30 minutes of the movie to take a little away from it's whole-it didn't (IMO). Very good flick.
