I thought we all knew this, however he did write the script though. I think thats why the movie worked soo much, someone else took his work and crafted it into something unique.Comment

It may not be "his movie", but if he's going to put his name on a movie, whether he's director, producer, or *shudder* star, he's going to get vitriol and derision. There's no avoiding it.Rose City 'Til I Die

Exactly. If he doesn't want his past to follow this film then he doesn't have to shove it down everyone's throat that it's from his amazing mind as the previews stated in huge lettering.
If people don't want to watch this film because Night's name is on it, they have every right to make that move and talk about the film in comparison to his other work. That's why Clint Eastwood lets the world know he is the director. It's why Quentin Tarrantino is mentioned as a feature director for one scene. It sells.
And if you're asking why M. Night would think his name would sell, it's because it does. Have the movies lived up to the hype? No. But, I think it is also fair to say that many of his films have been interesting stories that just did not work. So when he says: "Hey, I thought of this idea - remember that I have good ones, right? - but I let someone else run away with it," he's banking on the people that have been asking for that very same thing.
Anyway, I'll watch Devil because it fits within my favorite types of film (the thriller kind). I won't watch it in the theater, though (unless a group of friends wanted to go but that's not happening because all of my friends scoffed at the film when we saw previews)."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
