Connecting my laptop to my TV

I have an Acer laptop and a LG TV (HD - 720). I want to connect them, so I can watch on TV what I'm seeing on my laptop.
What cable do I need? Is it an RGB/VGA cable?

    Is it something like that:

    Thanks!
    My Specs:

    ZX Spectrum
    CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
    GPU: Monochrome display
    RAM: 48 KB
    OS: Sinclair BASIC

Your'e right, if your tv has PC input then all you need is a VGA to VGA cable. However, $20 is way too expensive. I'd always check monoprice.com for audio/video cables.

Thanks! No, I wasn't going to buy from that site, it was just to ask if that's the cable I need.

      Thank you for the reply.

Gotcha. Just making sure. I recently got a 10 ft. VGA cable connecting my laptop to my plasma. Works like a charm. Not sure I'd buy a HDTV that didn't have PC input.

Well, my TV does have a PC input so it's all good. And 10 ft. cable would be great because I don't have room to put my laptop next to my TV. I want to leave it where it is.

Reminder that cable will not produce audio.

Ha...so what do I do? Where will the audio come from?

Good point....Some do come with the audio cable included (which is what I have):

You'd need one of these adapters if you want to have the audio from a surround sound system instead of the tv: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

So I need VGA cable with stereo plug, eh? But it's still one cable, right?

Yep. It has a little bit of stereo cable coming out each end with the plug. Much cheaper and less clutter than having 2 separate 10ft. cables.

Thanks. And I think my TV sound would be enough. I'm not into making my house a movie theatre. I like going to the movies for that

It's only $1.99, you won't know what you're missing (assuming you already have a sound system, of course)...

No, I don't really have a sound system, not something that I truly care about. But I appreciate the tips

OK, so I got the SVGA cable and I can see the laptop screen on my TV. As for audio, I had to buy a seperated audio cable, but I still can't hear anything when it's plugged. Maybe I bought the wrong audio cable, but the guy who sold it told me that that's the one I need. It has a black (headphones-like) end on on side, and red-and-white plugs on the other. Is that the right cable, or it should be something different?

You have to make sure that you use the audio input that corresponds with the VGA input.

What is the model # of your TV?

My father's smaller LG uses a 3.5mm audio input (same size as on the laptop) to go along with the VGA.
