Yeah, my Vizio has a VGA port and a aux like cable port for sound. The 360 VGA adapter comes with a red/white to male plug for that (though I use digital audio for surround sound).

Make sure you're connecting to whatever audio port the TV uses when in VGA input mode.

Ok, so you're using the audio jack directly below the VGA input, correct?

(assuming this back panel image is correct for your model)

Which audio output are you using on your laptop? The headphone jack, or an alternative audio out?

I'm using the headphones one on my laptop. As for the TV, I'm using No.8, where it says R & L.

You have to use the video and audio connections for the same input, you can't mix and match.

VGA can only use the "AUDIO IN (RGB/DVI)" input for audio. It's a 3.5mm input, same size as the headphone jack on the laptop.

One of the links gamecock posted would have worked beautifully.

Yeah, I remember that, but the guy at the store insisted that the cable I bought was the one needed. And you know what? I watched several youtube videos explaining what to do - and they all showed the cable that I have. But maybe you're right, I may need to get a cable with the headphones jack on both ends.

So to sum it all up, everything should be connecte to the No.4 area?

                Yes.

Each "set" of inputs work independently from each other. The VGA is paired with the jack below it, the "component in" is another separate set, the "av in" is another, etc. You can't use the video from one and the audio from another, when you change the input you want to use on the TV it effectively disables all other inputs.

The cables you have would work....IF you were using one of the "sets" of inputs that required them.

Now, the question is...where can I find this 2-end-headpone-jack cable...and what is it called? Never seen anything like it...

It's called a "3.5mm to 3.5mm" cable, with both ends being male.

Though if it were me I'd spend the extra two bucks and get the "combo" cable that include both the vga and the 3.5mm all in one (the same link that was posted earlier).

Haha, well that was pretty obvious I just don't remember seeing one like that. I'm gonna go to stores and look for it.

Thanks for the help guys....and if it doesn't work, I just gonna scream really hard!

Another option if you happen to see it is a cable that will convert your existing red and white RCA ends to the 3.5mm end that you need.
