Saw Machine Head in Pittsburgh last night...for about 45 minutes. Imperium and Volatile sounded great. During Now We Die and Beautiful Mourning, you could start to tell there was something off with Rob Flynn’s vocals. During The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears, he went on a coughing fit that caused him to stop playing guitar. Before Darkness Within, he said he was feeling like crap and that his throat was on fire, but he was going to keep going.
During the opening verse of the song, he took another coughing fit, but the crowd kept right on singing and he jumped back in when he regained his composure. Towards the end of the song, his voice decided it had enough and that was that. We sang the ending harmony for him for a couple minutes, and being on the rail, you could see the disappointment in his eyes.
They left the stage, came back out a minute later and said they couldn’t continue. My buddy and I had tickets for Cleveland tonight, but they ended up canceling that show as well, so turned around and headed home.
It was a rocking show, even if he wasn’t at 100%. Only grabbed one pic during the show, as I figured I had the rest of the set to grab pics. Oh well.
