I very much remember the Mew/Pokemon one.

That little pink bastard cost me hours of my childhood trying every single ****ing cheat I could find on the interwebs.

I ended up buying a GameShark just to get him.

I was waiting to read this one. I heard so many different ways to play as him back in the day. Wasn't there also a rumor about finding an additional star on the roof of the castle or something?

What about the Carser City unlock in GTA III? That made me strive for 100% dearly. I had to do all of the ambulance missions, but to no avail.

What sucked the most was after I did it and attempted to save the game, it froze during the save, corrupting the file. I have no idea why this happened, but I no longer had any GTA III files anymore.

Ever since then, with every game I own, I create like five game save files.

They missed the Tails Doll one in Sonic R and also Polibyus.

The one I remember falling for was the Akuma in Resident Evil 2 April Fool's joke perpetuated by EGM. Since it was possible to play as a lump of tofu in that game, surely playing as an iconic character from Capcom's biggest franchise was not out of the realm of possibility. I also remember there was a fake code going around to make Sonya nude in Mortal Kombat. I don't remember what the supposed prerequisites were though.

What about the oldest, and maybe greatest, gaming urban legend, that there are truckloads of ET cartridges buried in a landfill/desert (depending on who tells it)?

I remember a few that centered around the PS1 versions of Smackdown. In one of the games supposedly you could unlock Rick Rude, in another you could unlock the Ultimate Warrior (his character model was half done in one of the games and could be unlocked with a Sharkport/Gameshark), and "hidden" entrance videos/music.

I bought a Sharkport just to hack those old wrestling games. I remember guys creating ladders on top of HIACs and all kinds of neat mods with the Sharkport stuff. It was good times.

That's not urban legend, that's fact.

Because it's true, unless you have a link actually debunking it.

Once again, a widely believed fable.

Note that there is a big leap between Atari dumping excess inventory into a landfill in New Mexico (which they did) to Atari dumping truckloads of ET cartridges in a dump in New Mexico (which they did not).

Snopes cleared up that it wasn't just ET, there were plenty of unsold copies of Pacman too. But at the end of the day, whether it was with other inventory or not, millions of copies of ET were dumped by Atari in a New Mexico landfill. Please cite any source stating something to the contrary.

I don't have sources, you do know there is life outside the internet, right?
