You don't have sources but he does, yet we're supposed to think you're the credible one? And to deflect the fact that you've been proven wrong you hurl thinly veiled insults instead. Classic.

What insults? I don't have internet sources because my source isn't the internet, hence life outside the internet.

I remember from some book I had read, and I don't recall the title, sourced Atari documentation that they ordered 4 million copies, sold 3.5 million (2.5 the first year, 1 the second), so where did these millions come from?

For a web source from the guy who made the game, http://web.archive.org/web/200504060...d=47&Itemid=67

CFG: Well, let’s suppose just for a second, that in April 1983, Atari closes its El Paso manufacturing plant. Fourteen trailer trucks filled with unsold games such as E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial and Pac-Man dump and bury their contents in an Alamorgordo, New Mexico landfill. You've heard the rumor before. What are your thoughts on it?
HSW: Honestly, I doubt it for a couple of reasons:
First off, Atari was a failing company at the time. They were desperate for cash. Why not reuse the plastic cases and some of the boards and ROMs? There is a lot of money to be saved by cannibalizing the inventory and reusing that. Why would a failing company spend money they didn't have in an effort to waste even more money by throwing away usable resources?
Another reason is if this would have been going on, I would have heard about it. I was pretty tied into the Atari grapevine, and here's what would have happened:
Someone would have said, "Hey Howard, they're burying a ****load of E.T.s out in the desert." I would have grabbed a photographer (I had plenty of money then) flown us both out to the site, and gotten some pictures of me standing on top of the mountain of buried carts. How could I not do that?
But, sad as it is and unromantic as it is to say, I'm sorry but I don't buy the dumped cartridge stories.

I take it you never found the Mew glitch online lol? It actually is in the game without the Gameshark.

I remember there being tons of rumors and urban legends about hidden characters in the old NBA Jam games...same with Mortal Kombat as well.

Some were true, some weren't...fun times.

There's the urban legend about being able to shoot the dog in Duck Hunt too...that was a popular one for a while.

Also another legendary one is being able to jump over the flagpole at the end of each world in the original SMB. I still try that to this day and can't do it.

This makes miss Gameshark and to a lesser extent EGM.

I didn't know about that until now. Seems ridiculously easy, and yet, I don't really know how the hell someone stumbled on it. I was trying to get Mew back when those were still recent releases, so this glitch might not have been found back then.

There's now a decent chance I'm going to an old video games store tomorrow and buying Pokemon Blue just to try this.

EGM is back, it's not monthy anymore but they are back and still the best gaming mag out there.

The strangest one to me was always the Banjo Kazooie key thing. Wasn't there always the thought that they were going to make a sequel (they eventually did, of course) that locked the first game cartridge on to it and you could use the keys or whatever else you found in the 2nd one? Obviously, that double cartridge thing never came to fruition but they did make a sequel and you could do something with the keys. That was always so crazy to me. It's like they put it in there just to tease you.

I really like the Banjo Kazooie series. They were pretty tough for me, but my brother's a seasoned gamer (I'm primarily a sports junkie) so I always watched him get through games like that.
