HELP with LCD TV

Hi guys,

My 32" Daytek LCD TV no longer turns on. The red standby light just dimly comes on and goes away.

I called a couple of repair shops and they said it was a power supply problem. They said it would be about $200 to fix.

Should I fix this TV (it is now about 5 years old) or should I spend a few hundred more and get a new 32"? If I get it fixed, is there a high chance that something else might breakdown soon?

I would appreciate a quick response as this is my Xbox360 TV and I can't play till either fix it or get a new one.

Yeah considering you can get a brand new one for $440 like a Sony, LG, etc. Could even get a Element for $300

I use this TV primarily for gaming. Is there one stat I should rank highest? (i.e. response time, refresh rate (120hz), contrast ratio, etc)

Look at the over all picture and don't get caught up in just one stat. Contrast ratio is important, but make sure the over all picture looks good before you even read the stats on a tv.

Contrast Ratio is measured differently by different manufacturers and ends up being a gimmicky number.

120hz refresh rate vs. 60hz is a key demarcation between higher and lower price points ,now.The refresh rate is important for gaming,more so than 1080p vs.720p,actually.
Most sets now have a Game Mode setting that disables motion processing,thus reducing lag substantially.

Looking at a set in a store and trying to determine anything about its' picture quality is near pointless,as the sets are usually set to "torch mode" or Vivid setting and being fed different/dubious source via unknown connections.The lighting is also really bad in most stores,and not at all like your normal home viewing set up.

^^^^ Good stuff above. At 32 inches, you're basically going to pay about $550-650 for a 1080p set. $400 can get you a nice 720p LCD. Either way, I'd strongly consider looking at a 42 720p inch plasma. If it was my money, I'd get this Sammy plasma for $500. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-PN42C4...2601154&sr=8-1

Unless space is an issue, go big.

You may or may not notice a difference in 720p vs. 1080p especially on a 32 inch set. But you'll definitely notice (and appreciate) the 10 inches.
