Has everyone seen it? It comes out on US DVD September 28th.

Follows the life of two brothers, one well educated and ambitious, the other a rebel (Nolte), who becomes a promising boxer. The ambitious one becomes rich and powerful, while the rebel struggles to find himself.

Their father is a German immigrant played to perfection by Ed Asner (who won an Emmy for the role).

The show spans just over 20 years.

It was the second ranked TV show of 1976, barely losing out to juggernaut All In The Family.

Notable actors who were in the series:
Bill Bixby, Dick Butkus, Norman Fell, Steve Allen, Lynda Day George, Van Johnson, Dorothy Malone, Dorothy McGuire, Ray Milland, Robert Reed, Dick Sargent, Talia Shire, and William Smith.

Geez...I remember when this AIRED on T.V.
I probably begged my mom to shut it off and change the channel so I could watch reruns of F Troop or Gilligans Island.

I remember it was back in the days of TV serials. Roots. Thorn Birds, etc. I think you could probably classify it as a "Chick Serial".

You know, we just don't seem to get nearly enough "F Troop" references around OS...

              Thanks, Knight!

Just bought it for $49.99 at Best Buy. It includes the sequel Rich Man Poor Man Book 2.

I've only seen the series replayed in 1991 (for the 15th anniversary-on TNT I think) and 1996 but both times I was late seeing it and both times caught the 10th of 12 episodes.

One thing that stuck out was a 35 year old Nick Nolte playing a 16 year old in a fight with a hulking serviceman played by Dick Butkus. Nolte didn't look quite as young as I remembered when I first saw it in 1976. He did do a fantastic job of changing his appearance as he aged into his late 30's.
