    Computer Gurus, need some help

Hey guys, I have a laptop that I have Windows 7 installed on. I partitioned the Hard Drive and installed Windows XP Pro SP3 on the other partition for a dual boot system. The Drives are C: and D: respectively.

Now, my question is, I want to get rid of the Windows 7 partition which is the system partition. Can I do this, and just keep my XP Pro, or am I gonna have to go through and format and do a fresh install?

I tried to describe what's going on the best that I can, if you need more clarification, I'll go further into detail.

Well if you know for sure you never going to use Windows 7, then just wipe the hard drive and do a fresh install of Windows XP SP3.

I don't want to lose all of my documents and programs that I have installed, that's the only deal. I've moved them from Windows 7 partition to the XP partition, so all that's left is the system files... but that partition is still showing as 191GB, and I want XP to use that space.

Download easybcd and restore the XP bootloader.

Burns, will that make the XP partition the "main" system OS? So I could get rid of the Windows 7 partition and expand the XP? Or if anyone else could chime in that would be great too.

Ghost your XP partition. Then you have your Backup. You could then lay your Image onto your drive (you can expand if your partition if it is bigger then your Image partition)

Last you will probably have to repair the boot. I would boot from the XP CD choose install and when it detects a existing installation do a repair or google how to repair boot from recovery console.

Can I "ghost my partition" using easybcd? Or do I need another program. Sorry for the dumb questions fellas.

Why did you want to dual boot with Windows XP and Windows 7? Windows 7 includes a Windows XP mode that runs programs in that compatibility mode if that is why you did it.

Nah, I did it because I don't like Windows 7... I tried it out for a while... and I hate Vista, so I'm going back to XP. No "real" reason for it, other than I just like the old school XP better.

you can also try Easeus Partition Master Home Edition 6.1.1

I've used it in the past at work when I have forgotten to partition the drive beforehand, it worked for me. all you do is slide the cursor back and forth to determine how much drive space you want to use

of course like anything computer related back up your files by ghosting or using an external drive.

                    good luck

Yeah, I booted the PC back up, and apparently, the boot.ini file was corrupt, so I ended up having to do a fresh install anyway. Luckily, I did save all my files the day before. Thanks for all the help.
