        Re: Conan

I laughed right from the start when I saw the patched dry wall. Conan has always made me laugh, before/during/after the NBC mess.

My favorite twitter update he had was congratulating his cast on the emmy nominations for The Tonight Show. He felt the nominations meant a positive future for the show. lol

Yeah, he agreed to move his show to a later slot as a part of the original Conan negotiations. He'll still be on, which is bad news for everyone except him, basically.

Yeah, I have a friend who works on that show. Good thing I don't talk to her too much anymore, because it would suck to say, "hey, your show sucks ***!"

I coulda sworn they're going to use Lopez as a lead-in.

Either way, can't wait for Conan. Just bring it back full force, man. Late night is so WORTHLESS without him.

Man, can't wait for this. I've missed CoCo, lol.

I don't mind Letterman or Kimmel and Fallon has been getting a little better but nothing compares to Conan.

BTW I haven't watched a single minute of Leno.

                      Re: Conan

I hope a Canadian network picks up Conan's show but anyways yes I have a feeling he's gonna bring it back like in the old days. He's gonna be irreverent, funny and a little bit off the wall. Personally I thought he would be a better fit for FOX but TBS has really made a coup with his hiring.

BTW anyone know Leno's ratings since he went back to the Tonight Show? I haven't watched a single minute of his show and I wonder if the ratings have taken a significant hit compared to his first stint.

Letterman is still Letterman, despite what you may think of him he's still pretty funny and is the best interviewer out of all the late night hosts.

Pretty sure The Comedy Network/Channel picked it up in Canada.

                        As for Leno's ratings:

LOS ANGELES - NBC might have summer's most-watched show in "America's Got Talent," but the network's late-night ratings aren't so hot.

"The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" is pulling a smaller number among adults aged 18 to 49, an elusive demographoc coveted by advertiser, than when Conan O'Brien hosted the show last year. In fact, this summer is the lowest-rated "Tonight Show" on record, though such feats have become increasingly common on broadcast across the board.

Since the end of the broadcast season in May, Leno is averaging 3.8 million viewers and a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating (each ratings point in that demo equals about 1.3 million viewers). That's a 12% improvement in total audience compared with O'Brien, though off 23% in the demo and down in both measurements compared with Leno's performance two years ago.

His percentages greatly improve if comparisons begin a few weeks deeper into the summer so "Tonight" is not facing O'Brien's opening weeks hosting the show, though O'Brien is tops in the demo either way.

Even with the reduced rating, Leno is back to beating his top rival, CBS' "Late Show With David Letterman," by a healthy 22% in both metrics. CBS counters that Letterman's ratings are at least holding steady compared with last summer, when Letterman hit an all-time low of his own.

Other late-night hosts have been showing stability too, with NBC's "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," CBS' "The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson" and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" maintaining their demo averages, and Fallon and Kimmel even sporting gains in total viewers.

Heading into the fall, NBC's affiliates say that, if anything, they're pleased about the schedule in general and late-night in particular. Last year, stations contended with the expected ratings decline of putting Leno at 10 p.m. and the uncertainty of O'Brien hosting "Tonight." Station managers are looking forward to having scripted dramas back in late primetime, which in turn should fuel audience momentum into late-night.

There's an expectation that it's nearly impossible not to have a better story to tell advertisers in the fall, especially with NBC stocking up on dramas like high-concept series "The Event" and shows from top-shelf producers Dick Wolf ("Law & Order: Los Angeles"), Jerry Bruckheimer ("Chase") and J.J. Abrams ("Undercovers").

"There's been a lot of NBC stations that have suffered significant declines in late prime, and that's not going to happen with this lineup based on the estimates buyers are getting," said Eric Lassberg, president and GM of NBC affiliate KXAN-TV Austin. "All evidence points to our ratings going up (at 10 p.m.)."

I was just reading ratings are at an all time low. You really have to wonder though how anyone thought anything otherwise. It's really crappy too because NBC has come really close to destroying a classic show.

Thanks BluenGold, There's something wrong in the world when Leno constantly beats Letterman but that's just my opinion. At least I can take some joy out of seeing NBC taking a big hit over the Conan fiasco.

IMO NBC already destroyed the Tonight Show. Johnny Carson must be rolling over in his grave.

Do these ratings take in to account views on sites such as Hulu? Or what about TiVo/DVR recordings?

If they don't, it would be interesting to see a comparison of combined live viewers with internet views for, let's say, 3 days after the first showing. My guess is that among the relevant demographics, Conan CRUSHES both Letterman and Leno's numbers.

I know I, for one, am not always sitting there watching at a set time and will check out shows online that I miss. It seems to me that the current ratings system is a dinosaur that drives horrible TV decisions.
