There's only one way to describe it: meat dress.
Lady Gaga raised eyebrows Sunday night at the MTV Video Music Awards where she took to the stage in an outfit made entirely of raw meat. The fleshy number also included a meat hat, lace up shoes, and even a matching raw purse.
Before the eccentric singer could accept the Video of the Year Award for "Bad Romance," she handed over her handbag to legendary entertainer Cher, who was presenting the award. Even the 64-year-old pop star seemed a bit squeamish when Gaga hugged her.
"I never thought I'd be asking Cher to hold my meat purse," Gaga told the audience.
According to MTV.com, the controversial meat dress was made by designer Franc Fernandez,
But while many viewers were in awe of the meat dress, some were not.
"After time spent under the TV lights, it would smell like the rotting flesh that it is and likely be crawling in maggots," a PETA rep told TMZ.com Monday morning.
Maggots or not, this isn't the first meat outfit the star has worn. Gaga posed for the September cover of Vogue Hommes Japan in a meat bikini.
"Oh, Lady Gaga's job is to do outlandish things, and this certainly qualifies as outlandish because meat is something you want to avoid putting on or in your body," PETA's President, Ingrid Newkirk, told the Daily News at the time.
