How can I achieve this with the laptop shown in the link below? I had the hdmi cable running from the ps3 to the laptop's hdmi port, but do you think it won't work because the hdmi port may be an hdmi "out" only? That is the only theory I have as to why I saw my desktop instead of the ps3.

If the specs sheet doesn't indicate some type of video in, then no. You'd have to have some type of custom card, but I'm not as familiar with laptops.Comment

you can get a capture card that will allow you to have component or composite input. thats how most people do their recording actually. but you need a good one and they arent cheap. above the 100 dollar mark. i dont know about ps3, but with the 360 you can pick up a vga cable cheap and use an hd monitor, or you can pick up an hd monitor with an hdmi input for around 130-150 in the 19-22in range.Comment

no problem, me personally, I would go the hd monitor route if i were you. buy.com always has good ones on sale, and you can get a very good screen perfect for gaming for under 200 most of the time.Comment
