You can appreciate how good Amy Adams is if you watch her performance in Julie and Julia as food blogger and Julia Child devotee and then watch her in this film as sexy barmaid and girlfriend to Wahlberg's Mickey Ward. Two totally different people portrayed to the point of unrecognizability.

A very good flick about family and loyalty.
I do agree that Bale and Adams were great in the movie. Just was't the biggest fan of Wahlberg. Maybe it was because I also saw Black Swan and I was comparing the 2, but I didn't find it best picture worthy. A good movie, probably 8/10, but not great.

Bale and Adams were both great and Wahlberg was solid. I could see it getting a Best Picture nom in a pretty weak year like 2010. Bale should get a nomination at the very least.

I actually found the boxing scenes pretty stale and thought they might've been the weakest part of the movie. The presentation of the final fight was cool but the boxing itself was kind of hard for me to watch.

The actual boxing scenes were pretty lacking in my opinion. You hardly see Ward throw a punch until he faces Neary at the end. I guess you see a little action during the montage, but there really isn't much there either. The presentation was very authentic, and overall, extremely well done, but... there was very little substance in most of the fights.

I wasn't looking for a boxing documentary by any means, but I can't really understand why they didn't showcase the actual fights a little more.

That being said, I still really enjoyed the movie. Whalberg was basically the same guy he is in every movie, but that's probably to be expected. Though it's a great story, and Bale's performance is probably the best part of the flick. Good movie, but I'm not sure if it was worth seeing in the theater.

I just saw this and I loved it. Wahlberg and Adams were really good, but Bale was perfect in his role. I liked the fighting scenes, the presentation was really nice. There were a lot of funny parts too especially involving Bale and the sisters. I haven't felt this excited watching a movie in awhile where I felt like throwing some punches at the screen watching the last fight lol.

Bale will get nominated for sure, he was at his best.

Amy Adams is very sexy too.

                10/10 easily. See it.

Great movie. I thought Bale was amazing, but then you see the real life guy at the end and it makes Bales performance even better. Just wow

Best sports movie I've seen in awhile. I'm willing to bet the bank that Bale wins the Oscar for his performance. So awesome.

Yeah I had my jaw on the floor when I saw how the guy at the end was in real life. Bale nailed that character, he should easily get the win to finally recognize the talent he has as an actor to pull off a role.

They are discussing a possible sequel to cover that part of his career.
