Looking for a TV and want to be able to stram live video from PC to TV...

So I'm on the market for a new TV, I'm looking at some 55" LEDs...but here is what I want and am not sure if I need a particular TV or if all I need is a cord:

I am a Packers fan and watch the games on my PC currently and want to be able to stream that live video to the new TV. I'd like to do it wirelessly if possible, but the only thing I can think of is connecting the TV to my PC via a cord of some sort and basically using the TV as a monitor.

    Any suggestions/tips/ideas/whatever are much appreciated!

Unless your PC has HDMI out, you're going to have to get a TV that has a PC-input (VGA cable support), and the only ones that I know of are normally smaller, maybe 32" or less. I might be mistaken with that number and perhaps you can find some 50"+ LCD's that also have that, but I believe it's only LCD's and not LED's and Plasmas and such.

I'd be more than happy to be wrong about that though. But basically, find a TV that has a VGA connector if your computer doesn't have HDMI out.

They also make converters for VGA to (input you want), but I don't know that they are always reliable. Check monoprice.

i haven't been able to figure out how to stream live video wirelessly from my PC. I've done a ton of research and I've come up empty handed.

Intel has WiDi, but I think only some laptops support it and you need some box to hook up to your tv as well...

Otherwise I'd just string a long HDMI or VGA cable to your tv and connect that way....

i'll check this out when i get home but I already assumed that there was some hardware on the market that would let me do this. Most of my research revolved around trying to use the PS3's media streaming capabilities.

i have a laptop so if its really that important I can just hook it up through my HDMI connections

just get a graphics card with an hdmi port, boom, easy, no need for 2 cords (1 for vga, 1 for audio)

Yeah, I think Intel's thing is kinda limited to certain laptops...

In general you're better off stringing a long cable if you have to...cheaper and better performance. I think anything else would be expensive (like the rich guys who have a media closet that streams to tvs in every room)...

Agreed. VGA to VGA cable (with audio) is all you'll need assuming your tv has VGA input. http://www.amazon.com/PTC-Premium-Mo...5108020&sr=1-1
This is what I use to connect my 50 inch plasma and it works great.

If not, you'll need VGA (PC) to component (tv) cable: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...ponent&x=0&y=0

You'll also need this for sound if it's playing through your tv: http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-2106...5108215&sr=1-6

or this if audio going to a surround sound system: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Audio-C...5108264&sr=1-5

A wireless connection is going to be way more expensive ($80-190) and give worse results.

Or you can save plenty of cash by getting the VGA cable that includes the audio cable too.

Doesn't a streamed video look like **** though on a big TV?

Depends on what you're streaming and what the resolution feed is. I'm able to go at least 1600 x 900 on my 50" plasma at home via HDMI, I popped in a Blu-ray (with the proper software that removes the region code to be able to transmit the source), and it ran smooth as butter.

In that same vein, I suppose if you are subscribed to one of the sports networks and you're getting a 720p feed (albeit being a little weak especially in the framerate department), the upscale in size while keeping the same resolution and "goodness" that you can have on your laptop can only be a positive.

If you have a Fry's near you, you can probably get them as long as like 50 feet and you won't even have to spend two Jackson's.
