Mine is the Randy Rogers Band. They are out of Texas and are slowly making it to the bigtime, but still play 200+ shows a year on the road in Texas.

Phoenix has been getting some good mainstream exposure over the last year or so. In Los Angeles at least.

I'm gonna go the nutriding fanboy route(just because I've actually been wondering this myself lately) and say that I wish more people appreciated and recognized Lupe Fiasco's genius. I'm even referring to those who do listen to him. It's that White Men Can't Jump "You're listening but you're not hearing" type thing. People say they like listening to him but do they truly understand what he's saying? For example, what % of people who say they listen to him know that the second verse of Daydreamin' is sarcastic? I'm willing to bet that 90% of Lupe listeners have no idea about The Cool, Michael Young History, The Streets, The Game.

Maybe I'm wrong but the people around me who I go to his shows with are missing a lot of things he says. I'm more than happy to explain it to them but it makes it seem like he goes way above most people's heads.

Ok I'm gonna stop myself there before I get to into it. Fiasco Friday got me all amp'd up.

I'll throw my hat into the ring. Perfume Genius is a Seattle singer-songwriter who puts together some haunting / devastating music.

Cymbals Eat Guitars are a Staten Island band, fans of early Modest Mouse should enjoy. Joseph D'Agostino breaks into a sweat easier than anybody I've ever seen. Also, dude's like only 20. The bassist with the hair has since left, which is sad, his hair was fun to watch live.

Some guys here have heard of them, but Hurt is the best modern rock band i've ever listened to. It just boggles my mind that amazingly talented bands like Hurt get basically no exposure, yet bands like Theory of a Deadman and Nickelback get all the radio play. It's actually for the better I suppose. Every friend i've ever introduced Hurt to went out and bought all of their CD's. It's amazing how much more involved in the music you get when a band pours all of their emotion into every song. That's why I wish everyone would listen to them, to open up avenues to other great rock bands they probably haven't heard of.

For me, it doesn't get any better than Hurt though.
