Prime Time Network Television Ratings (Will Your Show Survive?)
Wanted to start a thread where I can update per day (or at least try) with the TV Ratings for all of the major networks. Your one quick stop to see the ratings and discuss the survival or death of your favorite television show."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Prime Time Network Television Ratings (Will Your Show Survive?)
Monday September 27, 2010.
FOX
The biggest fall goes to Lone Star. The media loved this one when previewed but the audience is not responding. Lone Star fell from a 1.3 ratings last week and rumors of an impending cut to a 1.0 adults 18-49, 3 million viewers. The series is all but dead.
House also dropped 10% from last week to a 3.8 adults 18-49 (for the record, rating will always be 18-49 for future reference as I won't be typing that out from now on).
NBC
The series that has been compared to 24 and Lost, dropped 19% to a 2.9 rating. The Event finished third in its time slot behind two heavyweights. This may start the call for NBC to reconsider the survival of their new "hot" show.
Chuck has been on the bubble for years and things are not improving. 1.9 / 5 million viewers. Chase also dropped 9%.
CBS
How I Met Your Mother improved to a 3.8. Rules of Engagement also saw a slight increase.
Their two newest series: Mike & Molly and Hawaii Five-O did not help their cause by dropping 5% and 10% respectively. Two And A Half Men fell 2% but still enjoyed a 14 million viewer push.
ABC
Their mega-hit Dancing With The Stars was the most-watched series last night despite falling slightly. It drew over 20 million viewers from 8-10 pm.
Castle remained strong and had the biggest jump at 19%."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Interesting that THE EVENT dropped off so steadily. Hopefully for those who enjoy the show NBC doesn't just throw it to the wayside and instead moves it to USA.
I'm not surprised by Hawaii Five-O. I've heard that it wasn't so hot.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Prime Time Network Television Ratings (Will Your Show Survive?)
Are the ratings still just the Nielsen boxes? Do they take DVRs, encore presentations, and online viewings into account?

Re: Prime Time Network Television Ratings (Will Your Show Survive?)
They take into account DVR's a few days after the fact, and is called a Live +7 rating. They add the DVR's to the initial viewing.HELLO BROOKYLN.

Re: Prime Time Network Television Ratings (Will Your Show Survive?)
Only DVR recordings can be tracked, as mentioned above.
The numbers are actually assumptions based on the people that have their viewership tracked. Nielson also takes it seriously to ensure that they are reaching all demographics. The rest is math, I assume. If 2 of 10 people watch this then 20% of the population watched it. Obviously, it's much deeper than that."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Prime Time Network Television Ratings (Will Your Show Survive?)
FOX doesn't give their shows a chance. Unfortunately, one of the reasons they were so quick about this is because they spent so much advertising it. Surprised me, though, as I hardly saw an ad for this series."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Prime Time Network Television Ratings (Will Your Show Survive?)
I like this thread. I can remove TVByTheNumbers from my bookmarks now.
Ratings are always stressful for me. For whatever reason, I tend to end up liking shows that I later learn are squarely on the bubble. Chuck, Community, Scrubs, 30 Rock in it's first couple years, How I Met Your Mother in it's first couple years. Living on the bubble sucks. I've never had a show I really love cancelled, though. So that's good news for Chuck and Community fans.
And no, I don't count Scrubs. In my mind that show finished with My Finale. The whole med school thing never happened.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Per TVTattle.com
It's official: Fox cancels "Lone Star"
After two low-rated episodes, production was halted today on Episode 6 and the remaining episodes will be burned off on Fridays. PLUS: Fox feared "Lone Star's" ratings would rise, making their decision tougher.Comment

Re: Prime Time Network Television Ratings (Will Your Show Survive?)
People point to the sample size as a problem, but Nielsen also can't keep up with the changing viewing habits in the industry. Nielsen was slow to count DVR's, and I believe they planned to start counting online viewing sometime this year. Even that excludes Hulu or any of the network websites.Comment
