    Denon Home Theatre Question

Long story short, I bought a new receiver, did the auto setup, the system sounded outstanding. problem is, the night i did the set up i was pretty much 3 sheets to the wind.

The next day i got to flipping through the manual and decided to make some changes, which of course screwed up the auto settings.

So i go back and auto set the thing again, but for some reason i have it in my head that the system played louder the very first night of use.

Anyone know if there is a hard reset you can make to restore the settings to factory default?

    It's the AVR-891 btw.

Maybe you thought it played louder because you were 3 sheets to the wind.

      that's what i'm wondering myself.

i'm confused though, because i don't really know much about it. my first receiver was set up all wrong, and i had it set up to just blare sound. normal listening level on the old amp was at like -70 or -65.

last night with the new amp the listening range was somewhere closer to -30.

a big leap. although the sound is superior, it's a lot different.

On my Marantz I usually listen/watch show at about -30 to -25. If that helps.

that actually does help very much.

Co-sign. My Harmon Kardon receiver is set to -25 as well.

I have a Denon AVR-2805 and in its manual there are some steps to reset the receiver to the factory settings. It is in a section called resetting the micro-processor (or something similar).

By the way, for me, usually if it is a 5.1 sound show I have my volume between -25 and -35, if it is a stereo show it is usually around -42.0. Games vary, but they are usually around -45.

my old amp went from -whatever to zero and stopped.

i noticed last night that on the denon, after zero it starts climbing into the positive's.

as long as i'm not destorting i'm guessing it's all good?

My Harmon Kardon AVR also goes into the positive. It's just very very loud and usually overkill. I guess mainly b/c 2 of front speakers are floor standers.
