Re: True Grit
Lets not get The Good The Bad and the Ugly or Silverado involved with Young Guns or Tombstone please.
And re: Brolin's character
SpoilerHow does he die too easily? He is shot in the arm. Hit across the head and finally stumbles off the cliff.
If anybody deserved a prolonged death scene it would be Barry Pepper. He was awesome.SpoilerDidn't she blast him in the chest with a shotgun and then he fell off the cliff?Comment

Re: True Grit
Saw it tonight and it was surprisingly lacking. i found it mostly boring. Maybe because I didn't like Bridges as others, partly because I found him tough to understand. I didn't really like Matt Damon's character a whole lot either, I thought Damon was a bit out of place, like they just wanted a big name actor and Damon was available. I thought Josh Brolin had the best performance and yet he wasn't given much screen time.Comment

Re: True Grit
SpoilerYes she did, that is what killed him.
I saw this last night and enjoyed it. Bridges characters was my favorite. Very funny.
My only complaint isSpoilerI felt the ending was a little rushed. It happened really fast. I was expecting Brolin to have a lot more screen time and abduct the girl for longer then 10 minutes. I still really enjoyed it though. The little girl did an excellent job along with Bridges.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Great movie (saw it last night), all I could think of was Red Dead Redemption the entire time.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: True Grit
Man, I knew I recognized the mortician/undertaker from somethin! He played in Day of the Dead. The skinny drunk guy (character named William McDermott - according to imdb).

Re: True Grit
Watched this last night and thought it was very good.
I've hardly been into the action westerns, but the more dramatized versions usually do good enough to sell me on the concept of the overall genre.
I've hardly watched many Jeff Bridges films, but I think he did a decent enough job as Rooster Cogburn. I didn't like that he was a lot of the time inaudible. His rough talk seemed force, but his performance was convincing.
Hailee Stienfeld should have a bright future if she sticks with these roles and doesn't start venturing into ridiculous films. I guess it's inevitable with her being a kid and probably wanting to take on kid film roles, but she definitely has the talent to stick around for a long time. A lot of things from her that many adult stars don't even handle properly. I couldn't help but worry that one of those stars will try to teach her incorrectly and ruin a good actor.
The story was nice. I don't know if I'd call it Best Picture. Actually, I know it isn't Best Picture. It's a good film. I enjoyed the pacing. I do wish the impending final act battle was going to be a bit bigger, but after watching, I realized it made a lot of sense.
One thing I couldn't help but think was mostly ridiculous was how these supposed outlaws obeyed law man without putting a bullet through their heads. In all seriousness, LaBoeuf should have been dead during a certain sequence. I'm not sure what advantage anyone would have had to keep him hostage (if that was their intention).
And while I never wanted to see Mattie Ross die, she should have been dead quite a number of times as well.
So that's my biggest disappointment. The outlaws weren't really much more than really nice guys that did bad things. The good guys sure didn't talk about them like that, though, so I found it a bit underwhelming in that sense."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
