Its just not the right mix. Game ideas/game engines

Good morning all. I'm curious to know if you've ever been in the middle of playing a specific game and started imagining what should have really been created?

Here's an example. I was playing Red Dead multiplayer the other day and couldn't help thinking that this same engine would be great with a WWII setting. The look and feel of the game engines along with the cover system makes for a perfect military style shooter no?

Or how about the **** battles of the Dragon Ball series, with the gorgeous cell shade/japanese art style being converted into Macross (or any type of mech game for that matter), I would guarantee game of the year if this one were made.

There are many others that I wont throw out there to save you some reading time, but it seems like devs rarely get that perfect mix of ingredients. You get one thing in this game, another thing in that game, but you never get both in the same game, lol.

I personally think halo would've been a better title in the third person (similar to Gears of War). Or atleast Rainbow six vegas style where I can lean against the wall. Why give me the option to load out my character with different types of armor and such, but I NEVER see my character.

I need that perfect mix of ingredients.

    What do you all think?

Why are you saying good morning when it is night time ?????

But anyway I think about that all the time. However not everybody is a like, went to the same schools, etc. That is why some developers do things this way and others do it differently. It is all about what you were exposed to while you were learning to program.

Kind of like cooking. You can't expect your wife or girlfriend to cook like your mom, that's not going to happen.

Hell we can take eggs......I gurantee you on this website alone you will have a dozen different ways of how people make their scrambled eggs.

When i was playing Arkham Asylum, there were times where i did an attack where Bats went flying across the screen to hit another guy in the combo and i think to myself "WHY is this fighting not in a Spider-Man game again?" Granted Spidey is leagues faster than Bats (and faster than you think for that matter) but it would be awesome stuff.

The combat system in Arkham Asylum would be great for a Spiderman game.

I'm in japan at the moment man. So I'm typing this at around 2 pm here, and its probably around 2 am in the morning in the states somewhere.

Gotta admit though, like the examples other posters have given reference the Batman fighting engine mixed with a spiderman title, devs seem to miss the sweet spot most of the time.

I have one more example. Lets take the nex gen offerings of the the transformers games. "War for Cybertron" probably is the best of the bunch. Now, for any old school transformer fans (ones who would most likely purchase this title) G1 skins are a must. But....you guessed it , they're no where to be found.

We get the G1 skins in the versions that no one wants to play, but we dont get the G1 skins in the version that people are more likely to play ya know.

Its just strange. You would think that some of this stuff is just obvious.

Red Dead Redemption into a Civil War game.

Make it happen, someone. We've been WWII shooter'd to death. Nobody's done a good Civil War game.

Now that I think about it, they did make Red Dead for the PC right? If so, I'm sure we'll see a version for anything you can imagine once the mod community gets their hands on it.

A Civil War video game could never work.

Two rows of guys, one row on a knee each, the other row standing behind them, shooting at the enemy, who's in the same formation.

That's the Civil War minus the occasional march through a field. Count me out.

For the PC, there have been several really good civil war games in the 90s. Especially the ones Sid Mier did. His civil war games were one of the 1st PC games I ever played and bought. I would spend all day playing them.

Re: Its just not the right mix. Game ideas/game engines

Also while I am thinking about it:

When I played Alpha Protocal, Mafia 2.......I said to myself, how come they couldn't have a story line as good as Mass Effect 2 or Dragon Age.

Then I say how come all the other games can't have graphics as good as Mass Effect 2.

When I look at DLC for games, I say how come all games can't have good DLC like Dragon Age and Red Dead Redemption has. 99% of DLC is BS, it is nothing but new outfits or a daytime map turned into night or desert map turned to snow. Very rarely does it offer actual worthwhile add on to the story kind of content.

When I played Battlefield Bad Company 2, I was thinking, how come the other military shooter games don't have their sniper class like they do, more of a recon type of class to spot out the enemy, direct air support and stuff.

I also wonder why there hasn't been any good Navy battle games, tank games or helicopter games for consoles. I would kill for a good tank game or Navy fleet command type of game on the consoles.

I liked the story in Mafia 2.
