Re: Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, Reunite for "Dark Shadows"
I too watched this during it's remake in the early 90's and older versions with my father and I think Tim Burton is the last person I want associated with it, now team him with Johnny Depp and remembering how they slaughtered Charlie and Chocolate Factory and I see a worse fate for this. Sadly though if they had gotten the right people behind this it would have the potential to kill off those ***** "vampires" in Twilight. -
Charlie and the chocolate factory was close to the book I thought and I like Tim Burton's style.

It's not really "reuniting" when they do a project together every other year."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

All bigtime free agents signing with the Yankees, and small market teams losing all their homegrown players.
But seriously, the dark nature of the show sort of fits Burton, but I just dunno about this one. Not gonna judge this early though.Comment

Mainly the trend of vampires. But then there's also the trend of rebooting/remaking old stuff, which is becoming annoying at this point. And then there's the other trend of Deep/Burton's love affair with one another. I like the fact that they struck up a friendship and have come together through three decades of filmmaking together, but it kind of sucks that Depp could be doing a lot of serious roles and is instead, playing fantasy with his buddy Burton. At least he's doing what he wants, I guess.Comment

Well, that too, but that's another discussion.

I would say Dark Shadows is a pretty obscure franchise to be rebooting, at least nowadays since a lot of the original show's fanbase is 50-60 years old and above. Its not exactly a cash-cow franchise like say Spiderman.
As far as Burton and Depp goes, I love all their films together. Personally, Depp is at his best when is a goofy, weird, kind of alternative guy like in Edward Scissorhands. Depp has never really struck me as an overly serious role taker, sure he's had some, but he's more he's better when he's diving into those weird roles. Plus both Burton and Depp loved the show and Depp's made it known that he has wanted to do the role of Barnabas since he was a kid.
