I am looking to replace my PC monitor in the office since it has some damage to it with an 32" HDTV as I've heard those are decent. I plan to hook up the PS3 occasionally to this. I was looking at a Vizio 32" 720p 60hz.......not looking to spend more than $350. I'd be sitting about 2 feet away. Would this be ok for both the PC and PS3 via HDMI. My PS3 would only be hooked up to it every so often when I have house guests hogging up my main TV. LOL! Would the non-1080p make a difference since I'm not sitting that far away?

EDIT: I tried out the Vizio and from a picture stand point, I really like it. But my eyes even at 32" can tell the difference between the 720p and 1080p. I returned the set. There is an LG for $50 more at BB with 1080p, I might give that a shot. I would even consider anything at 26-28" range, but those are priced almost the same as the 32".

I just found out I was not fortunate enough to get an IPS panel with my LG. I have about two weeks to do a return to Amazon so my question is should I? From what I read IPS panels offer better viewing angles. That is not a issue for me so would it be worth it to exchange for an LED with an IPS panel? Do these panels offer anything else other than viewing angles?

I just found out I was not fortunate enough to get an IPS panel with my LG. I have about two weeks to do a return to Amazon so my question is should I? From what I read IPS panels offer better viewing angles. That is not a issue for me so would it be worth it to exchange for an LED with an IPS panel? Do these panels offer anything else other than viewing angles?

Getting a specific panel is always a lottery. If your not having any issues with the panel you have then stick with what ya got.

Is it worth the hassle to try again in the lottery? No gaurantees that you'll get a specific panel.

I know you guys have mentioned having still images and all but what about Sports Tickers like ESPN, Encore, that have there logo embedded on the bottom right side of the TV????

As long as your contrast is lowered you should be fine. Enjoy your sports.

Also if your display is in VIVID Mode take it out of that mode ASAP. I always suggest Movie Mode with a lower contrast. If Movie Mode seems to dim, then go Standard Mode with a lowered contrast. (50-55 contrast should be good)

LED's are better but only if you get a local dimming LED which I think Vizio has. Do not get any edge led.

If it comes down between edge led or lcd then get an lcd.

Remember that LED's are LCD tv's but the diff is that LCD use full bulbs which are long therefore you do not see any crop circles on dark scenes.

LED's are small bulbs that are suppose to enhance the color accuracy when in dark scenes and improve blacks which is the key think to representing accurate colors

Problem with LEDs are they have a shorter lifespan than LCDs by like 20 to 30 thousand hours

You probably wont find any LEDs that gives off dim contrast like the no name brand wack model LCDs but from what I saw, LEDs dont justify that price

23 any number thrown-out is all dependent on the actual usage of the TV. I've seen anywhere from 40,000-100,000 lifespan for an LED LCD TV. The important thing is @ minimum any display your purchase should last 5-6 years before you see the actual picture getting dim

Between his thread and doing research over cnet and avs forums, I knew more about TV's than the guys who worked in electronics at Wal-Mart...Remind you I knew nothing a few weeks ago...

LEDs are nice, just you're paying a premium price because it's the NEW thing. It does a very good job of giving you the brightness and "worry free" use of an LCD and comparable plasma picture quality.

IMO, if you can use some common sense about lowering the contrast settings, you can save a lot of money and get a bigger set if you go plasma.

Only time I'd recommend a LCD/LED over a plasma is if lighting is an issue.

Otherwise for that brightness (and extra money), you're giving up:
no hint of motion blur
blacker blacks
much better viewing angles
imo, much natural skin tones (nothing beats watching movies on a plasma.....oh yeah, a 1080p projector)

LED LCD Tech are actually coming down in price. Of course during initial release the price will be msrp. I purchased my 55"LED LCD for $2,250. Though it msrp for $2,999. If you shop around you can get a good deal.

As for PQ, better blacks & viewing angles are still plasma strong suits, but LED tech in black level performance are gaining ground fast. My display measured calibrated black level was .0001 the same as the KURO. That not to say my TV is better, but in Black Level it was even.

Where plasma has to catching up with LED LCD tech is in peak white output & brightness especially once the display is powered on. LED LCD are @ peak white & brightness. While it takes plasma a couple of minutes to get to its peak white & brightness.

Both techs have pros & cons. Both do things better than the other. It's really about what fits your need
