Anyone own a Panasonic plasma ST60?I can get a really good deal on the 60 inch but I'm hesitant on plasma not because of burn in but of the glare as it will be in a room with a lot of windows. I read that this model has an anti glare filter that other penny plasmas don't have and it works well but I like to hear it from the horses mouth from someone here who owns one. I had a rear CRT years back and the glare was just too annoying day or night unless you wanted to watch in total darkness.

I really hope the filter works well because the picture on this TV is supposed to be utterly fantastic and gets a rare 5 star rating from CNET.

I purchased the Vizio 65" M-Series 3D TV, M3D650SV, not really liking it. I think I will be taking it back to Best Buy this week. I've got a question about it for you guys. This is the first LED TV I have purchased, my others are plasmas and LCD. This Vizio LED has bright spots around the 4 corners, like someone behind the screen with a flashlight. Also there are a couple faint thin shadowy vertical lines around about a quarter of the way from each side of the TV. Are these things typical with a LED TV? I don't like the 4 flashlight spots around the corners at all. It's fine when the picture is bright, but anytime I watch something with black bars at the top and bottom, the flashlight affect is there and distracting. And then darker scenes of movies that don't have black bars also show the flashlight affect. For example this morning I was watching Zero Dark Thirty and when they were making the nighttime raid of the compound, it was so distracting because of the lighter 4 corners of the screen. Is it my personal TV that is the problem, LED tvs in general, or just a crappy TV line by Vizio? Thanks.

It's a problem with certain tvs, generally called hotspotting. If you want to eliminate this, the Samsung 7100 series and up will eliminate it. Reasoning is because they have micro dimming. I'm tired so I can't fully explain. Check avs, it's explained well there too.

Thank you. I'm seeing the difference now. I'd go for that Samsung, but I really prefer the passive 3D to the active. It's been a few years, but the active 3D glasses just weren't comfortable to me, so passive is pretty important. I'm having a hard time finding a 65" 3D capable TV that is passive and does not have the edge lighting. There's the LG 65LA9700 4k display, but that's more than I want to spend I think unless I know for sure that will make me 100% happy.

Been looking around all morning. Looks like I'm going to have to give active 3D another shot. I'm trying not to put much importance on 3D since I think it is dying, but I enjoy it so much.

I'm thinking of the Samsung PN64F8500 64" plasma or the Samsung 65" LED models, 7100 or 8000. The 7100 is micro dimming and the 8000 is micro-dimming ultimate, I wonder how big the difference is.

Question on wall mounts:

I'm tempted to put up mounts in our living room (currently 47" tv, but want to be ok to 70" or higher, prep for future) and bedroom (currently 37" but would get the 47" when I eventually upgrade).

When installing I'd need a stud finder I'm assuming, since I'd guess they'd require screwing them into the studs. Am I right?

Otherwise, as long as I get ones rated for the sizes I need I should be ok (everything else is generic, right?).

Any inputs? Just tempting to get them off the entertainment center and dresser....

yeah you'll definitely need a stud finder. The Sanus mount I got recently had stud finder in it, but it wasn't really a good one. All it was was a magnet to find the nail in a stud, then a pin that you would stick through the drywall to find the edges of the stud. It worked though and you can't see all the pin holes once the TV is up there. I use a nail to verify the edges of a stud using a real stud finder also though just to be sure.

There's about 3 different kinds of mounts you'll need to decide on. I have a full motion mount in my living room so I can tilt it down (it's above my mantle) and then also tilt it towards the kitchen if I want. In my game room I just have a fixed position low-profile mount. Then there is the tilt only model. The only thing I don't like about the full motion one is the arm that comes out that allows you to swivel it around. The arm on mine is about 9 inches I think. Cosmetically, it isn't as nice to look at as a fix position or tilt only mount which lay pretty flat to the wall (less than an inch).

Well finally got our TV mounted in the new home. Love that our installer put the wires from the TV in the wall and then ran the rear speaker wire underneath the carpet.

Sometimes the screws on the back in those areas can be too tight causing hotspotting/clouding. Loosing them & and them massing those areas in a circular motion helps

Ya. You will need to be able to pre-drill holes as well because the screws are pretty big. Get the mount from www.monoprice.com. I'd say spend the little extra money to get a full range of motion mount.

I went by Best Buy this afternoon and looked at some other TVs in their theater room so it wasn't so bright. I think I got a bad TV, screws too tight or something. But after all the research I did today, I think I will be happiest sticking to the plasmas. I have two already that I love, so I think I'm going to replace this Vizio with the 64" Samsung plasma.

Thanks...I was thinking at least tilt, but probably full range of motion to be safe...

I'll check out monoprice and when I'm ready do that. I have a great drill all ready, so just need to pick up a stud finder (needed one eventually anyways for my tools).

Not sure I'll do it soon or not, just would make things nicer overall I think.

120" 4k Vizio Reference Series has me paying attention. I can't wait to see the price and how it does. If it comes out less than 15k, which is doubtful but you never know with Vizio, it will be in my theater room.
