15% more screen area for only 12% more in price (I think that math is right).

    It's a no-brainer!

Actually, I want to check your math haha. No I just mean that I want to know what we're comparing. Was it a 48" screen to a 40" screen, or was it something else?

What's actually very bizarre about that though (which I have to know since I teach geometry) is that the ratio of areas is square the ratio of lengths. Like... to some, a 100" TV is twice the size of a 50" TV (2:1), but it takes four of the 50" TV's to cover the screen size of a 100" TV (4:1, which is 2:1 squared).

In the case of the 48" compared to the 40" (if that's what we're looking at), that would be a 6:5 ratio (20% longer), but its area ratio would be 1.44:1... 44% more screen!

That's unbelievable to think about, but it's true. It's pretty substantial of a difference.

I actually did a 46" to a 40". Whatever you say I am going with!

Does the 120HZ really make that much of a difference for the blurring as opposed to a 60HZ television?

Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

So I'm scanning best buy website right now, contemplating going run there and grab a new TV for my man cave. I currently run a Sony Bravia 32" for my PS4 and a 19" Samsung for my PC. I'm wanting to swap out both and go with a 40" to 42" TV with 2 HDMI ports so i can use my PC gaming & PS4 on one device. My issue is I would like to go plasma but there is nothing in that size which has 1080p. Do you think going with the 43" 720p version would be a bad idea? Or just go with the 42" LED which is 1080p?

Never mind changing tactics. Going to just grab a 27" IPS gaming monitor and use it for both.

Ah, then in that case it's still over 32% more screen area!

Ended up going with this badass Samsung 27" PLS monitor! Talk about incredible looking for my PS4 and PC games. Deep dark dark blacks and crisp whites. Little pricey at $358 with tax, but figured as much gaming as I do, I can splurge a little.

Well my TV situation did a 180. After talking to my wife more I've decided to not get a TV right now since we are going to Chicago this summer for a wedding so we decided to save the money for that so we can spend some extra time in the city.

The good news is that my dad is giving me his old 50" Samsung DLP. It just needs a new bulb. So I'm gonna put that in the living room and move my 42" LG flat screen to the game room. I think it works out pretty well in the end.

You can get a bulb id say around $50 so not a bad deal for a 50" tv.

Nice, especially if you can get a bulb on the cheap.

I bought the bulb on Amazon for $85. I went with the highly rated genuine part. I know a couple people who used cheap bulbs and they literally burst after days.

I figure that's a small price to pay for a TV like that.

I wouldn't risk it either....always go OEM on stuff like that.

So the finance committee is okay with an even bigger tv or was the main concern the price of a new set?

Guys I just want to say, go out and get you a IPS monitor!!!!!!!!! OMG the colors, brightness, and black levels are incredible. Black levels beat a plasma, with popping white levels. Add in the fast response time 5ms and tiny pixels of a monitor and you are talking whole other level of gaming joy.

I sit here and stare at the screen in awe how amazing it looks. I took a couple pictures with my I phone directly off the screen just to try and show how beautiful the picture is. Granted the iphone does not have the best dpi so its not nearly as good as it is in person, but it will give you a general idea.

Don't maybe go out and buy one, if you have a gaming station like I do. RUN OUT AND BUY ONE!!!!!!

It was never the size, just the money. And when my dad offered me the DLP it was basically pay $85 for a new tv or almost $500. I would much rather save the extra money for other stuff we need. Now I get a a 50" in the living room and a 42" in the game room. Now I don't have to hear bitching when I wanna buy Watch Dogs haha.
