Since I watch a lot of sports and play a lot of Madden, would this move be a bad idea? I hear LEDs can turn pretty choppy when handling motion of a sporting event.

One of the main reasons I'm interested in LED is because I like the soap opera effect it puts on movies and tv shows. (I'm in the minority, I know)

How does/would Madden 11 look on an LED? (compared to plasma)
How do sports look on an LED? (compared to plasma)

    Any info is appreciated.

    Thanks,

With CES in less than 2 weeks. I would sit tight & wait to see what is hitting market in the next 6 months from Samsung, Toshiba, SONY, Vizio & LG. This years crop of LED LCD's are not that great. A lot of EDGE-LIT LED's which still are suffering from clouding issues.

If your gonna/wanna buy sooner, try your best to get yourself a BACK-LIT LED LCD with local-dimming. You'll get much better picture uniformity & picture quality.

As far as motion. Make sure that both Blur & Judder can be adjusted. This will help with Motion. Though not necessary, a true 240hz TV is a plus

You can get that "soap opera" effect on any 120 Hz LCD or LED that has motion interpolation. Samsung calls it Motion Plus where extra frames are added. The tv takes the last frame and the next frame and creates what would go in the middle. Can be turned off, low, med, high.

Most turn it off except for watching sports.

The 8000 series Sammy LEDs only come in 46, 55 and 65 inches.

Full array (ie. not edge lit) LEDs and plasmas should perform equally well (really comes down to personal preference).

A top of the line 2011 tv should outperform a top of the line tv from 2-3 years ago. That's just the nature of the beast.

Vizio makes a great full array LED 240Hz for cheap. And will get cheaper obviously.

I seen them at Wal-Mart for $950. It is the highest rated LED set on Cnet for picture quality.

Looking on AVS truly gives you a headache. LOL! Last few days I have been contemplating going with a Samsung or Panasonic plasma at 50" to get a bit more real estate + it would allow me to stay under the $1000. I was looking at the 55" version of my TV and it's going at $1299/$1399 at some places which I really do not want to spend at the moment. My wife says that the 46" is just fine.......I have to make things complicated. LOL!

Don't you just love it when the females in your life say things are "just fine" when you want to upgrade or want something new they can care less about. But gosh forbid we question anything they want or need.

Those two Plasmas are nice sets. I would lean towards a Sammy more due to price. But hold tight for the CES next week for 2011 line ups.

I hate Game Mode.........I can't see how people play in it. Game Mode makes everything look all dull, degraded and dark.

It might be rated high, but I seen this tv set returned to Walmart a few dozen times now over the past year. I remember when this set 1st came out it was $2,000, the highest priced tv set Walmart carried in store.

Some TVs allow adjustments to the picture in that mode, so it is not an issue on them.

And input lag is the reason why people play in game mode.

Yeah I know that is what people say, but to me, I don't notice any difference from playing in game mode or non game mode far as input lag is concerned.

I don't know about other TV's, but the Samsung C8000 plasmas allow you to modify every picture setting in Game mode that you can in regular mode except for white balance. Visually, there's no difference. And there's definitely input lag.

non game mode. In game mode, I don't notice any at all.
