I get what your saying, you seem to favor a lot by rtings.com, and the set I bought says it has low motion blur abd its only 60hrz, but some things that people nit pick about wont even been seen with the naked eye like they are making out to be. This has zero to do with RTINGS....It has to do with you saying that nobody can see the difference between a 60hz set and 120 or 240hz set. That is not true...I just explained that those numbers are fluff to a certain extent but it you can see clear as day the differenc between a 60hz and 120hz or 240hz set when watching an LED or OLED displays....It has nothing to do with the human eye...It is reality as that is how all human brains interpret things....If you not into tech stuff and feel we are just nerds and it is no different the by all means continue living in that world but others that do care should be informed before making a purchaseI get what your saying, you seem to favor a lot by rtings.com, and the set I bought says it has low motion blur abd its only 60hrz, but some things that people nit pick about wont even been seen with the naked eye like they are making out to be. Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Even as a non-LED fan, I have to agree with 120Hz screens being better for motion without ever using a smoothing option, because both 60Hz and 24Hz benefit from it (both values are factors of 120Hz). The latter is important for films since it does not have to use 3:2 pulldown and provide that choppiness effect to achieve its film-like motion.
But I'll say I've been in Best Buy about 4-5 times in this past week and looked at every television screen, and while the resolutions impress me, nothing is enticing me to pull a trigger on these screens. I'm content right now.
On another note, as much as I still crown plasma as king, this thread title probably needs to change to "LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread." I don't think you can even consider plasma anymore unless you buy from eBay.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I have had many plasma sets and still have the King of them the Pioneer Elite Kuro from a few years back. The last year they made them. Paid 4 grand for it when a couple of months before was 7k.
I dont turn it on much and is like new with little hours into it. As awesome as that tv is which was praised for years by all the ISF calibrators and media the tv is not as good as the LED or OLED of today.
Yea it has perfect viewing angles and blacks but these OLED and LED tvs have majorly improved in blacks like the OLED which has perfect blacks and LED which are so much better then before.
But where the LED shines over OLED and Plasma is the brightness and that is super important for contrast and for gaming.
I plugged the ps4 to the Kuro and was sad with how the brightness was so dull compared to the Samsung LED...
Nobody should buy plasma today when there is no fix for it and tech has moved on from plasma
I also had the high end Samsung plasmas and the high end VT60 from Panasonic and none are better for gaming then this years KS samsung modelsComment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
^ I guess the point I was making for myself is when this is my last chance to use and squeeze out every bit of whatever that I can out of my sets, I will take advantage of it because I know this is tech I will never be able to go back to again.
Given my concussion, I'm actually quite okay with not playing on something that can achieve higher peak brightness. My head does not to very well with brightness. Right now I am typing on a screen that is dimmer than anybody else's laptop backlight can go, achieved with fl.ux and ScreenDimmer. So I think I'm okay for now.
When time goes by and I feel comfortable enough to justify spending money on not just the TV, but also a receiver, gaming console, BD player, and content (games, movies, streaming apps, etc.) that can achieve 4K, then I'll dip in. Until then, motion is a big deal for me, and LED automatically turns me off. I'm talking about in-store as much as I'm talking about the ones in my home. Motion blur cannot be unseen, even from the 240Hz sets.
I'm not saying those sets aren't superior, I'm just saying I can let time pass before I need to dip in. It wouldn't be cost-beneficial for me to jump on one right now. I have just under 8000 hours on one of my Sammy plasmas, and well under 6000 hours on my other Sammy plasma. They are still relatively in their "infancy" (like my Honda under 200,000 miles) and don't need to be thrown to the wayside for any of the tech that's out there right now when I know I can't go back to this kind of tech afterward... at least not for me.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Anyone familiar with this TV? It's a doorbuster today at Best Buy and is still available at mine. Thinking about getting it for my GF to replace the 42" Panasonic Plasma 720P set I've been letting her borrow. Don't care about 4K at this price range, so 1080P is just fine. Seems like a good price for a basic TV.Comment

The thing about those LCDs you see at Best Buy are always set on torch so to truly appreciate the picture you might have to mess with the picture modes or see one calibrated.

And based on that, we revert back to the "brighter is better" shop mode that retailers set their televisions to so customers are more attracted to them.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Maybe it's my eyes, in fact I'm sure it is because everyone's eyes perceive everything differently.
I like the way them ultra burn fast bright mode them floor model tvs are set.
I've tried the calibrated crap on my tvs in the past and I never liked it, it looked too dim for my eyes. Never liked the settings that all these TV guys would talk about on TV/video forums. I'm sure they look better like that to most people, but not me. I'm sure they add more life to the TV too but I don't mind about life. I'm buying a new TV every 3 years or so anyways.Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
I have to clarify that I don't mean "brighter" like higher cell light. That should be maxed out, you want peak white output. Even contrast should be near maxed. But an artificial sharpness slider cranked up? Blue whites?
Besides, the televisions you are referring to are calibrated for a pitch-black environment. That's why I have two modes on my TV: CAL-DAY and CAL-NIGHT. One is for lights out, and the other is for lights on (or when the sun is peeking in). You would take one look at my TV and not say that the picture is dull in any way. I could show you "torch mode" in comparison, and you would see what I mean by how degrading the picture gets.
You want pop? Get a Darbee. Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
For console games, 120Hz is a waste and hurts more than helps.
For TV/Movie viewing, it's personal preference. All TruMotion/whatever else it's called should always be turned off in my opinion, it makes everything look like doggie doo.
Other people like it on.
Refresh rate is never something I'd base a TV purchase on, it's not a computer monitor.badComment

you cant turn 120hz or 240hz from tv's that is how they are made and they make a huge difference in fast motion....But to each their ownFor console games, 120Hz is a waste and hurts more than helps.
