I am in the market for a new tv. I purchased a 55in Sony x900e at Christmas of 17. Either main board went out or something else. Geek Squad did try a repair, but it did not fix the problem. So three and a half years later, I am replacing it and can speak to the value of the additional warranty.

So now I’m looking at replacement on store credit. $999.99 plus tax is what is covered. Looking at either the Samsung Q80A or Sony x90j. Want to move up to the 65. My friend used to work for Samsung as their Walmart vendor rep, and he said the Samsung will have Black Friday pricing in late October and I have 90 days from now to make the swap. Thoughts on either of these TVs?

The 1 year is with Hisense, the geek squad will cover more and may allow you to have Bestbuy deal with the problem instead of Hisense. Check with Scott though for their current coverage during the manufacturer 1 year warranty.

Hopefully that would be enough. Seems like wherever I look, people have mixed reviews. Like most things, some will say its great, some say it sucks, the hardcore tech people just compare/contrast it to the top end stuff.

TCL and Hisense both seem like they'd be great, but who knows how reliable. Whereas LG or Samsung at the comparable price might not be as great, but will be more reliable.

I think at this point you are over thinking things. If you just want a decent TV to watch sports, then just pick a Samsung or LG.

My mom got like a 42" Samsung for a small room just to have the TV on while she did other stuff, and it's been there for like 4-5 years and still works and looks great. And it's almost constantly on.

For sports, I would try to get a 120hz native panel, but honestly, it probably won't be a big deal for you.

No need to go back and forth on a low to mid range TV. Especially if you are only looking to use it for basic things.

That 65” is definitely cheap but it’s not good.

TCL series 5 has been another one I've seen. That one feels like it gets good reviews and has good durability too.

My current one is 120hz, so I guess I probably should stick with something like that, although its trumotion, so not sure how good it really is.

Comparing TCL 5 and 6, they both seem real similar, except 6 is 120hz and is much brighter, although I'm using this TV for a basement, so would brightness matter as much?

Interesting thing I saw.

Amazon seems to be coming out with their own TV. Although it's basically the TCL series 4, but except they have a fire stick instead of roku on it.

Seems like its similarly priced as the TCL too. Too bad they didnt model it after a higher model.

TCL 6 is another great option. TCL seems to have figured out their initial issues when they first started. You don't see a lot of issues like you do with Hisense.

Looking at all options, I'm surprised TCL is so good compared to others. Though this seems to fit my trend when it comes with tech. I often don't buy the biggest brands because at times the lesser known companies are better quality, if you know what to look for.

I once bought a Lenovo laptop back when they weren't so big. The specs and everything on it were just as good as a $1000 laptop. This cost only $500. Even a dryer, I looked at specs and other things, turned out its actually made by a bigger company that also sells the exact same thing under their own big company name for much more.

Hopefully the series 6 comes down in price, becsuse the price of a 55 inch right now is what the 65 inch cost to start this year, but with the chip shortages, 2021 seems like the worst year in ages for buying a TV. 2022 might not be much better.

I'm looking for a TV that I can keep outdoors under my patio area. In the past, I've just moved my old TVs outside as I've upgraded my new TV's inside but between the age of the old TVs and the elements, those only lasted a few months before dying.

I really don't want to drop $2k+ for what would likely be our least-watched TV but I would like one in the space. So my question is are there any alternatives to outdoor TVs (like Sunbright) that would last outdoors? Like I said it's a patio area, away from any sun or rain but it does get hot, windy, and dusty out there occasionally. I'd like a 55-inch but would probably settle for a 48-50 inch if I could stay under $1500 out the door (with delivery and set up).

The biggest thing is an actual outdoor TV is going to be 30-50% brighter than an indoor tv, and in the event that it the TV caught fire, it wouldn’t void your home warranty.

They have enclosures you can add any tv but nicer ones will be close to the price of a tv.

For a cheap option, try Amazon tv cover. As long as you don't mind taking off/putting on a cover, it should help with it lasting.
