Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
So, I have a Sony X900F open box I bought 2 years ago ($300, hard to say no too), solid TV, 49" (I can't really go bigger than 50" in my office setup). I'm sitting 3' away basically.
I was happy with it until I got a 55" LG BX for the living room and just happened to hook the XSX up to it for a bit and woah, it's sharp and nice with Dolby Vision, no lag at all, much better overall color wise.
So, I'm debating replacing the X900F with the LG 48" CX if I can find an old one at a good price, any thoughts? It's been awhile since I researched TV"s, needs to be under 50", preferably in the under $800 range.
Amazon has a 48" CX right now for $896 before 5% off. https://www.amazon.com/LG-OLED48CXAU...2660564&sr=8-9Comment

I had the X900F 55''. Really liked that TV except Sony left us high and dry on a fix for Dolby Vision being too dark on certain shows, or movies. It was kind of random. Said they were fixing it in a firmware update and never did.

How big of a gap are we talking between the 49" X900F and 48" CX in terms of PQ in Dolby Vision vs HDR?Comment

Exact same boat, trying to use Dolby Vision and the input lag is too much for the Show and it's too dark to begin with. It looked excellent on my living room CX. Is it worth using Dolby Vision on the CX with most games? I know only a few support it. I'm tempted.......X900F still looks pretty good with HDR.

As far as the input lag, are you playing in game mode?
So if you are asking if the OLED will be better for gaming, then absolutely.Last edited by PVarck31; 05-15-2022, 08:40 PM.Comment

Well I think the 900F gets a little brighter, but the trade off from LCD to OLED is well worth it imo. As far as DV and games, I don't use it. Hardly any games are optimized for it, and it just doesn't look as good as HGIG HDR in most games. I think you will get a more accurate picture that way.

Yeah normal game mode with regular HDR no issue, run Dolby Vision and it’s noticeable batting in the show, not horrible but not the same imo as game mode HDR.
Debating the LG, got the 900F fall 2020 for $350 as an open box so no huge loss there

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Any of you guys big on immersion lighting for your TVs?
I went the somewhat cheaper route this weekend and bought an $80 set that syncs with the picture via a small camera arm that attaches to either the top or bottom of the TV.
I was skeptical I would like it, but was just curious enough to try them out anyways, and I’m so glad I did. One of the best little cheap upgrades or accessories I’ve ever bought for a tech item.
The tv and picture almost seem to pop off the wall a little bit with the lights on, and the subtle way it helps with eye strain makes bright scenes so much more enjoyable when watching movies or gaming at night.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
I’m still debating replacing my 49” Sony X900F with an OLED, I have a 55” CX in my living room but it’s mounted over fireplace and not ideal for gaming. The space I’m in I think 55” would be too much (roughly 4-5’ seating distance straight on).
Here’s what I’m debating - Vizio 55” when on sale for $850 for a brief period this week it likely will again, CX 48” is $849 on Amazon or a C1 for $1k, or just keeping my X900F until the OLED’s with more brightness become more standard. X900F Dolby Vision is unplayable because of input lag, also missing out on all other hdmi 2.1 functionality

Grabbed the 48" C1 - Open Box Excellent with 1 hour of use for $729 right before it dropped to $899, probably stick with it as I think that price was representative of the drop (since it was the day before). Love it so far, nice upgrade over the X900F.Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
This might be a dumb question to most but I'm in no way shape or form a very techie person.
Are all newer TV's these days Smart TV's?
Here's the reason I'm asking. I have an old samsung I've had for about 12 years. I stream Netflix, DAZN Sports, Prime Video, Disney Plus through my Playstation 4.
I watch the English Premier League and DAZN Sports have just lost the rights to fuboTV. I have just subscribed to fuboTV but is not compatible with Playstation. I am currently watching it now through my PC. Can you access anything through a Smart Tv should I switch out my TV?
Any insight would be most welcome! Thanks!Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
I have a 2011 Panasomic Plasma TV that is still awesome and I have a firestick I bought thru Amazon for $30 that I can watch any app I want (Netflix, Peacock, ESPN, HBOMax, Twitch, etc.).
That should fit what you're looking for, Liverpool...just google whether the app you want is covered and then after purchasing it, sign-in to each app and you're set.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment
