The only time I've had any IR is if I'm watching movies or shows that aren't full screen for a few hours straight, I'll see the black bars on the side but only on the blank screen when I'm switching inputs and even that will go away after 15-30 seconds. I don't know if I've just been lucky but I've had absolutely no issues with IR interfering with what I want to watch.
I'm not going to lie, this is probably how it will be for most people. This is pretty much how it is for me, as well. I only noticed a hint of IR with the MW3 ammo figure in the bottom right corner, but those do go away.

Again, my only concern is whether this is truly just temporary IR, or if we kept this up, this would still be a sign of uneven wear over time that will leave more "permanent" IR (or what I like to call "burn-in"). This is my only concern; temporary IR doesn't concern me in the slightest.

Saint's Row: The Third will be my next true test with a solid health/map HUD interface on the screen all the time. Here's to hoping nothing is revealed from it!

BTW, thanks for the thoughts CZ.
Did you even pay attention to what I had in bold from your statement? You said I don't know what they are going through because I don't have a gaming system. To which, I merely pointed out you don't need a gaming system to have or NOT have IR issues.

Feel free to ship me your PS3 and/or 360 and I'll let you know if I see any IR.

Do you have to do this for your computer monitor? Cell phone?

It's just silly to me - that's all.
The thing Pared is that this is primarily Giants babying his TV which is what he does to meet this needs. I play a lot of games on my TV, watch movies in 2.40:1, my wife does her work out video that is in 1.33:1 for about 25 minutes a day. Yes we get some IR for a few minutes watching 4:3 and letterbox content, but after a few minutes it goes away. I was paranoid the first two months when I bought this TV, but those fears have long gone. Then watching regular TV content afterwards or later on in the evening any trace of the IR goes away. I don't go to the lengths of running the scrolling bar or slides afterwards.....but it all comes down to how someone wants to take care of their TV.

I just would hate to see this thread to get closed down that it has turned into a LED vs. Plasma war, when there is a lot of good info here for people.

It all comes down to personal preference. There is no "perfect" TV technology. Boils down to what you like (and can afford) and what "weaknesses" you are willing to live with.

So I was looking at Amazon's price match guarantee for HDTV's, and it says they'll price match from an eligible website if it's a lower price 14 days after your purchase. Anyone know if they'll do it BEFORE the purchase?

As mentioned, I was looking at one of the Sony LED's, and TigerDirect has the 46" HX820 for $1299, or the 55" HX820 for $1599. I got approved for Amazon's Store Card, which means 24 month interest free financing ( ) so it would be awesome to get the lower price before the purchase.

Any thoughts on either of those prices for these TVs?

I would not call it babying my tv....I experienced nasty IR from Madden 12 score bar on the top left. It stayed there for about 3 weeks. Just now I am not seeing it anymore after running slides and ww.

I saw some IR from nba 2k but that was on the bottom right which is harder to see for me since my couch is lower then the tv therefore the upper part of the screen is more visible at that angle.

Best way to see the IR is to run the slides and pause it on the bright green slide. do not get close to the tv. sit about 8 feet away and look at all angles of the set with that slide on. This will show you if there is any ir on it.

I have no issues with gaming and now that I run on 16:9 the IR is not even appearing because the pixel shift is moving all static logos every 2 minutes

Running on screen fit gives you 1:1 mapping but it disables the pixel shifter which then allow static logos to remain on screen.

But again, my question seems to get skipped over and over as we deface this issue... does this still cause uneven wear on my television?

I'll bring up the example once again with black bars: if we run slides to eliminate the temporary IR that black bars have caused, over time will this still eventually cause that uneven wear that will make the IR no longer temporary, but instead "permanent" like burn-in? Because if so, this is the most troubling issue of them all.

Nobody should be concerned with IR if it's only temporary; it's the permanent stuff that matters the most. If, over time, that uneven wear causes these images to remain on screen forever, that's not really something Pared or myself might be looking forward to down the road.

I'm looking for a Black Friday deal for a 42" TV, not sure if I should get LED or Plasma but around the price range of $400-$550. Any ideas on brands? Or if a plasma or LED is better for that size and price?

That set is well known for it's ghosting issue, but mainly in 3D mode. Don't want to sound dumb, but tell him to first make sure that the 2d to 3d mode is OFF.

If problem persists, I'm hearing that a warm up time of at least 15 minutes is needed before ghosting diminishes. Others have stated that the settings from TweakTv have helped,

If still persists, then it might be time to exchange, or live with this inherent issue. Hope things work out.

Norton's review of the Sharp Elite Pro, the top TV available today, and the only set that can compare with the Kuro Elite Pro.

It still amazes me how far ahead of the curve Pioneer was with their tech. It took 3 years for Sharp to release something comparable with this LED. Everyone else is still further behind. Man, imagine what Pioneer would have out by now?
