    Direct TV

We have cable now. It's an old house and it seems like the cable was ran before common sense was around. The service sucks and is expensive so we are switching.

I assume that for the current cable there are just splitters up in the attic that run everything to our rooms.

Should they just be able to find the individual cables going into our wall jacks and connect them to the dish?

No. You have to have RG6 cable, most likely you don't if it is old cable.

My house is 20 years old and I have cable running up the inside of our living room walls up to the attic...when we switched to Dish (from Time Warner), the installer had to install new cable as otherwise it would literally catch the old cable on fire because of the amount of power.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Is the CinemaPlus free streaming? We are getting the HD DVR with this feature on it for free for getting DirectTV, but I wasn't sure if you get to stream the movies for free or is this their On Demand type service?

Its the on demand stuff. It is all free as long as you subscribe to the channel, except for the PPV movies.

Thats the only thing that jacks me about Directv is that you have to order a new dish to get the on demand, the jack wipe i had to install my service told me that i wasn't in a good area to get HD. so i switch then find out i did have good service the dude was just lazy and didn't investigate the inside of house, just outside. My house is big so from the outside looks like a lot of work , but i have all my lines on junctions so all the guy had to do is run a new wire from the dish to the junctions and I have service throughout my house. I took him 30 minutes to put my service up.

Yes the installers are terrible because they are subcontrators and don't get paid much. So if the job is hard, most of them will just say you have LOS(line of sight) issues. They also only get paid by # of installs, not how long it takes, so they don't want to do hard jobs.

The guy who installed mine was fast and efficient. I gave him a hand with most of it and it took us about an hour to put up a dish, install the wiring and program our two receivers. We had the same issue, when we were remodeling the house, my father accidentally got RG5 instead of 6 and we were forced to run new lines to the basement and attic to service the house. The RG5 is still there for video networking and cable if a future home owner/renter chooses to use it.

Is there anyway to make the screen go blank on the music channels? I know most of it's black, but I don't want even temporary IR of that Direct TV logo in the bottom right.

Any chance Direct TV will upgrade one of my standard boxes for free?

Right now we have a whole home HD DVR, an HD Box and a standard box. I moved home for the summer and my brother and sister in law put the HD Box in their room and now I am stuck with a crappy box. I really don't want to pay an extra $99 for the stupid thing. Maybe I will try bitching about how new customers are getting NFL Sunday ticket for free.

                        Re: Direct TV

You can do a free movers connection and usually you will get a free upgrade. You can't have an existing account at the house though, so it may not sound like that is an option.

What model is it? If it is an old one, they are replacing those and you should be able to get an upgrade. If the MRV doesn't work on that box, you should be able to at least get that upgraded to a box that will work with the whole home.

We got all the boxes last November.

Stupid you can't lease them. I know it would cost more over time, but I would rather pay $5-$10 a month then $100 straight up.

Actually you are leasing them, unless you pay a lot more. I think owned ones cost around $800-1000 when first released.

I'm hoping between no Longhorn Network and new users getting NFL Subday ticket now I am gonna try to talk them into upgrading my SD Box or threaten to cancel.
