    Portable TV

The other day, a guy at work brought in a little portable TV. It was about the size of an iPhone, he just plugged in it's little battery adapter, tuned it to ESPN2, and bam! We were watching some college football at work.

It got me to thinking: I'm without cable (just pay for the internet and we get the basic 1-10 channels). This is good, but it's not enough. MNF is on ESPN, hockey is on Versus, baseball is on ESPN and TBS during the playoffs, etc. You get the point. I had to watch the World Cup on the Spanish channel.

I basically want to know, if I buy a little portable TV like the one this guy had, do I get to watch channels like ESPN for free? Or is there some subscription you need. I would ask the guy at work, but I'm not sure how legit his setup is and I figure we have a lot more techies here who know what they're talking about anyway.

I looked up a portable TV on Best Buy and it was just 75$. If I could pay that one time price and get ESPN, ESPN2, etc... I'd jump on it.

    Thanks for any help!

    Re: Portable TV

The feed has to come from somewhere: cable, satellite, slinged from another location, etc.

    ESPN ain't OTA

Just ask the guy, he is getting the feed from somewhere.
And someone somewhere is paying for the feed.
If you bought the portable TV you will have to pay for the feed.

It was probably a FloTV, which I believe is subscription based.

He would still have to have an ESPN feed to sling.

I would guess the guy had a Flo TV.

              Thanks for the responses.

I'll have to ask. If it makes it any more obvious, when he tuned it, it was like a list of channels and he just selected ESPN2.

Looks like I'll have to do some more research.

Yeah you gotta find out where the feed is coming from.
