Does anyone use Direct TV satellite internet service?

Okay...since leaving the big city pretty much for good....and leaving behind my RoadRunner cable internet service, I've pretty much been stuck with the just as expensive, but barely faster than dial up(dial up may be faster sometimes!) Frontier DSL service.
HORRIBLE. I seriously don't know how they are actually allowed to charge for this archaic service, but that's another matter.
My question. I have Direct TV as my provider for program viewing and am wondering if anyone has any experience with their satellite internet service?
    How's the speed?
    How is the reliability?
Anything you've got, I'm thankful for the info.

I have WildBlue, very similar. Still through satellite. All I have to say is DON'T DO IT. There is a limit on how much bandwidth you can use. If you go over it, your internet doesn't work for the rest of the day. You can only use like 500MB with the biggest package. Speeds are mediocre at best, and you can't game online. Stay with DSL.

I use satellite for a couple of my businesses for the property management systems. It has to be satellite because it gives you the most secure connection and so nothing is intercepted. But the speeds are horrible. Next to the satellite connections, I have to set up another cable internet connection for private use because the managers, as do I whenever I'm there, complain about the satellite so much.

Even Verizon isn't in my area yet.
I have Verizon wireless...and they have a few towers in the area(still spotty on my property though)....so I'm hoping they will move their regular service into the area eventually.
I have heard their DSL is far superior to Frontier's .....
At times it's not bad....but when their is heavy traffic(getting worse and worse)....it's really bad.

            I can't get FIOS either.
I'm stuck until these guys expand.
Blows...but that's the drawback of living in what amounts to my own personal park.

If anyone has any solution....I'll be forever indebted!

Re: Does anyone use Direct TV satellite internet service?

Yep sat internet blows........BARELY better then dial up. DSL blows too unless you live relatively close to the nearest HUB. Cable internet is the best unless you live in an area that has FIOS. FIOS is the best over all, it just isn't in a lot of places yet.

I swear Verizon is moving slow as hell expanding their FIOS coverage. So for now for me Comcast cable 23 down and 6 up FTW. The best deal in town in this area.....

We had Hughes Net which is Direct TV's satelite internet.
And it was horrible even worse then horrible!
It was slower than dial up I could not even play games online on my 360.
The connetection was so slow I didnt even try to get online the last month I had it.
My wife bitched so much at them that they let us out of our contract.

Nice-Vermont probably has some of the best scenic views in the country.
