I'm reading Sebastian Junger's book right now. It's excellent so far. I'll probably record this and watch it after I finish the book.

His book "WAR" is outstanding. It's so real I couldn't finish it. Dealing with PTSD at the moment. Need to get my mind right to finish it.

How do soldiers view journalists like Junger and Hetherington who are embedded in their units? I imagine there's some amount of disdain for journalists who never see the front lines but I'm curious about how they view guys who put their lives on the line right beside the soldiers.

Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger has earned the respect of every soldier I've talked with regarding this documentary. My unit had journalist Michael Ware with us for a couple of months. He went through everything we went through. When we went into Fallujah he was right there. I love the guy.

As far as "sitting on their butt's" back in the world journalists go. I have no use for them outside of covering sporting events and State Fairs. I don't bother reading anything written about the wars if the reporter has never been there.

Do they get to carry firearms too Jim? Or are they literally running out there with you guys, unarmed? That sounds EXTREMELY dangerous. I can see why they are so well respected.

I've watched this twice so far. I thought it was put together brilliantly and the film does a great job of capturing the emotion of the soldiers.

I had this recorded on the dvr and finally got around to watching this. It was one of the best war documentaries that have I have ever seen. If anyone here has not seen it I really recommend watching it. I think I may even pick this up on blu ray.

Just got finished watching it. Easily the best war documentary that I've seen (not that I've seen many), and I couldn't pull myself away from it. It exceed the expectations I had by a wide margin. As others have said, I definitely recommend watching it. I suspect I'll end up buying the DVD, which for me is a huge deal as I don't think I've bought a DVD in at least 5 years.

One question to anybody that knows. What was the big box thing that had joysticks? I assume it's some kind of big binocular or camera or something, but I'm not sure. You get a good look at it near the end of the film.

One of the best War docs I've even seen. I'm impressed the director kept the camera rolling when the IED went off and when they were under fire.

How did Jonathan Papelbon find time to fight in Afghan and pitch for the Red Sox?
