Capture Cards? Recording PS3 to PC

How complex is this to setup?

I've always wanted to record gameplay to my PC but I never had the PC capable of doing it. I'm in the market for a new computer and curious to know what I would need?

Will I need some sort of external device to do the recording or can it all be done from the computer?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Depends on the device, but typically you can port from the PS3 directly to the cpu. Just be aware that if you go with an ATI capture card, it seems that ATI wants you to have one of their video cards in your PC as well.

If you want to capture HD footage in HD, your best option is the Hauppauge HD-PVR.
