      One of the true icons of the genre and of all pop music if you ask me. She remained relevant a lot longer than some of her contemporaries.

      She will be in my thoughts

      Her '80s hits were just as good as her '60s hits in terms of energy and soul

        I just found this;

        According to FOX 2 News in Detroit, the legendary soul Diva Aretha Franklin, 68, is dying of pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer is the same disease that killed actor Patrick Swayze. In a post at

              She is one of the few artists in the history of music who can claim hit songs across three decades. And another thing that really amazes me is that her songs weren’t raunchy with sexual overtones. AND SHE STILL SOLD RECORDS! So I hope that next great female voice can reach for what Aretha did and not sell her soul to the record company and become some sexual kitten.

              I hope she makes it through this. According to the reports, it’s not looking good. BUT the music world at least got a chance to listen to the voice of one of the greatest singers(male or female) of all time.

                RIP Queen of Soul. One of my favorite singers and true legend. She just had one of those special voices that really touches your soul. Grew up with my mom blasting Aretha in the house while doing chores and all of us belting her songs. I will miss her but she's always playing in my house and my kids will get to know her as well.

                      Another giant in the field of music has left us. A very sad day indeed. The last of the royalty of soul music is now in music heaven

                      Queen: Aretha
                      King: Otis Redding
                      Prince: Marvin Gaye

                      May they rule the heavenly soul music world with the grace and great artistry as they did in life.

                      Here's a song that doesn't get played up much from her but it's one of my favorites:
