Any DJing or Mixing Experts On Here?

Was wondering if we had any people on here who DJ and/or Mix on the side or do it just as a hobby(which is what I'd like to do)?

Always wanted to kind of try it out just as a hobby and I've been interested in doing it so I was wondering if anybody on here knew of any good turntables and headphones you would recommend getting.

One of the turntables I've been looking at is this:

So yea, if anybody knows a few things about this and want to help a fellow OSer out, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Those are great for someone who are just starting out.

If you ever wanted to get serious even as a hobby (doing some parties)

I would have suggested the Technics 1200's series but they are discontinue (may find them on ebay) they are the standard for turntables and are also user friendly.

As for headphones I suggest these:

    http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ATHM50

They are really a bang for your buck, IMO they are the best Studio/DJing headphones avaible and I even prefer them over my Studio Beats by Dre headphones...

I dont really know much bout DJing, I make beats so hopefully someone else can chime in...

But if not you can check out this link

You may find every thing you want answers to.

      Appreciate that sir.

I also seen a "DJ for Dummies" Book online for $13.99 but I'm not sure if I should spend the money on it if it's not really gonna teach me anything and if I'd be better off just learning on my own just from practice, you know.

Guess we don't have too many people in DJ-Mixing business on here. Thought there would be since we have experts on here on almost any subject out there

It'll prolly be good for basics like BPM's and etc but the best way is to learn is from trail and error.

If anything I would recommend this book

This might be a dumb question....but I can buy that book without having to pay in British Pounds right?

From what I read of the reviews of it(where were good BTW)that sounds like it could be really helpful, especially with creating my own mixes, which is what I really want to accomplish here.

                don't buy that book homie

those look like Numark TT200s? Good enough. Technics like juke mentioned above would be great too if you could find a used set. And if you think you might wanna go digital, maybe even check out Numark CDXs which controls digital music with vinyl.

If you go strictly vinyl and don't have much vinyl and don't have tons of spending money, you run the risk of getting bored with your music. But you can cop vinyl at the used record store for one or two bucks a single and 5-10 for an album.

Don't pay retail homie. Just don't. Find a set someone is selling because they've given it up. Make sure it works. You prob just need a basic $100 retail mixer. Headphones and/or stereo system. Needles if they don't come with your tables. Cheap slipmats.

To learn, watch youtube and read the past 5 years of archived posts on djforums.com/forums

                  TT1625

Either way that bundle is the way to go for a beginner.

Also I wouldn't pay full retail prices neither

Amazon and Ebay are great for buying music instruments

I get all of my equipment from http://www.musiciansfriend.com/ http://www.zzounds.com/ or http://www.sweetwater.com/

all of those sites have used equipment and also never charge the full retail prices, most of their stuff come with a automatic discount.

NCState, I'm going digital with this one(using my ipod)since I don't have the spending money to go and buy records. Craigslist and/or ebay would be the best places to look because if I can avoid paying $300 for it, then I'd rather do that than HAVE to do pay $300, you know.

This might be another dumb question, but for the set I posted earlier would I need to buy speakers for it or is it a case where it plays thru the headphones?

it comes with headphones but if you want to use it without the phones my best bet is that you would have to buy some monitors to connect to the mixer (I doubt regular desktop speakers would connect; not sure)

ahh ok my bad, I see the ipod in the mixer now...interesting

most people recommend not getting the "package" DJ deals...but I can't testify to that because I never tried them.

if you have a guitar center or zzsounds in your area you should swing by and check some stuff out.

Yeah a better investment for long term is some technics. (would have to buy 1 each and a mixer; this trade isnt cheap to get into and thats a reason why craiglist/ebay is a must go too; you can basically get brand new equipment from those places because someone are always giving up on learning the craft)

I own some Stantons (just for sampling) so I really cant speak on the quality of the tables posted, I just no "vets" will frown upon any "pack deals" because they tend to include low end gear.

Yea you ain't lyin when you said it isn't cheap to get into

Searched on craigslist around where I live at and didn't have much luck but I went on ebay and found a few things on there, including the Nu Marks where they got the kit on there for either $279-$289 range but the average price I've been seeing has been in the $250-$400 range on there.

Is there any differences between as far as using Technics or Nu Marks(only 2 I know about so far)or is it just a matter of preference with the two?
