    Rubber (Film)

From Director Quentin Dupieux (Steak, Nonfilm).

RUBBER is the story of Robert, an inanimate tire that has been abandoned in the desert, and suddenly and inexplicably comes to life.

You can't make this stuff up.

    <object width="640" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/joI-uU86NXw&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3 "></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/joI-uU86NXw&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3 " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></embed></object>

"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

This movie will all the awards for 2011, and probably the next decade. I knew never to trust a spare tire.

I saw this trailer a couple of months ago. Let me guess. It's angry because it's only a spare tire.

I shut it off after 14 minutes. I assume it gets better, but I didn't feel like waiting.

and I definitely want to see this, even if it's terrible. I've watched countless amounts of terrible movies, what's one more?

This film is bad. Real bad. So far, 25 minutes in, I've only seen things explode and an audience of people watching the film in the film.

I did laugh in the beginning. "No reason." Why is there a cop in the trunk? No reason.

                            Re: Rubber (Film)

I'm going to get bashed for this, but as a work of cinematography, it's actually not as bad as you would imagine. The camera shots are creative and its filmed very well. I was entertained by the cinematic portions of the film, if nothing else.

The entire movie makes no sense and has no point, but it isn't supposed to. The whole point of the movie is that it has "no reason."

And that's where the dark humor begins (it continues with exploding heads... lol). I didn't find the film funny until I sat back and thought about it for a couple minutes--and I'm sure I wouldn't laugh at it if I watched it again--but that's sort of the beauty of it. It's funny in retrospect.

I thought it was creative and pointless, but I actually enjoyed it in retrospect, which I believe is almost exactly what the filmmaker wanted me to think.

                            Was it good? No.
Is it worthy of any awards? Probably not, though the camera work was nice.
Would I watch it again? I don't think so.
Do I completely understand why people hate it? You betcha... lol

Not gonna slam you for that. I feel very similar to you.

Woke up this morning and started thinking about the film from a technical perspective.

Reasons why it isn't your regular horrible B film:

                              1. The acting isn't horrible. Is it great? No, but the people have some talent.

                              2. The cinematography is excellent. Probably the 1a. top aspect of this film. Like you said, it was shot well. The camera work at times really gave you some sense that the tire was a thing with real emotion.

                              3. The visual effects are done well. The 1B. top aspect of the film. For what definitely has to be a cheaply shot film, the amount of wide shots taken of the tire rolling around were impressive. Had me thinking: How'd they get that shot done? And then there's the exploding everything.

The film makes no sense. There is no point. It too often breaks the fourth wall in a way I did not enjoy. It isn't really that funny as you watch. So why the heck should you watch it?

Because life is full of no reasons.
