Yeah Blzer, I think you won't be disappointed. I dunno how loud really you want it but I couldn't handle putting two subs to it for my size room but for sure would sound real nice.

I was very impressed with the quality of the harmon kardon speakers, and the center channel is the best one out all of them.

I forgot that the biggest con for this receiver that it does not come with an ipod doc which I think is about 100 bucks for that. But if you do get it, because this receiver has the on screen display, your ipod info will display on your tv too, which is nice.

I won't need an iPod dock, I use my PS3 to play my music. I was looking at that option and then realized that for myself.

So my dad is going to see what he can do to negotiate some sort of recall with my system, but assuming he'll be unsuccessful I'll definitely have to look into this other system.

        Re: AV Receivers

I have a pretty much top of the line home theater system and from my experience you will not gain much from 5.1 to 7.1 or going to the dual subwoofer systems.

5.1 is plenty enough and most movies / blurays / vidgames etc are all done in 5.1. Sure you can turn the reciever to 7.1 but you dont really gain much at all.

Personally I am a fan of the Onkyo recievers, but there is nothing wrong with any of the ones mentioned prior either. It all comes down to price / performance and what you personally like.

My reciever cost over 1k and my friend has one thats in the 500 price range and to be honest there really isnt that much of a difference and hooking his reciever up to my speakers didnt make much of a difference either. Had it been a blind test, I wouldnt have known the difference.

Someone mentioned the watts and subwoofer, but it shouldnt matter since most home subs are self powered and have an internal amp anyways.

At the end of the day, its all in what you want and plan to do with your system. The reciever is brains of your entire system and its important to get the features you think you will be using in the future. If you plan on upgrading speakers, start with your center channel. It will have the biggest impact on your listening pleasure. For subs, I would highly recommend using an internet direct company and not some piece of garbage you find on the floor at Circuit City or Best Buy. You can get custom built subs for the same price as some of the floor models at your local stores that are 5x better built and have at least a 3x performance gain.

Okay well thanks for everything guys. I ended up getting the Yamaha with the speakers in a deal. It'll be here Tuesday. What kind of break-in period do you expect for the speakers, and how should I best go about it?
