    Google Voice number port service

Has anyone used it yet? If so how did you do it without them canceling out your current service?

If it's a typical porting procedure then there is no down time and you can cancel your other account after the porting completes. If you have just one number then ATT or whoever your current provider is will close your account anyway though they may bill you for one more month.

If you have multiple lines though then ATT can really stick it to you. They tend to max the cost of each remaining POTS line (like $60/mo) and jack up the MOU rates - at least that's the case in the business world. So make sure you cancel any additional lines if you have them. I've only dealt with porting commercial lines though, I've never done anything with residential POTS lines.

Can someone describe to me what porting is in simple terms so I can decide if I need it? I see where it says: "
      Your Google Voice Number
      (xxx) xxx-xxxx

      Change / Port

      Delete "

Also, I have one GV number that I use for marketing. People call this number and are then routed to my cell phone, if I choose to take the call.

I have another GV number that I want to put out there to market another biz of mine. Is there anyway for me to make this phone number reach my personal cell number, so I can have 2 GV numbers out there going to my one cell?

Porting is taking the number to another service provider. You can set your other google number to forward to your phone just like you have the other one doing.

That was to the point. Thank you. Can't tell why someone would see this as a benefit would you?
