Free Apps I'm liking:
Photo slides - turn xoom into a picture frame. I like to set it to shuffle, plug it in to power and set it on a stand. Instant digital picture frame.
EsFile explorer - wirelessly transfer files to and from my PC.
Mobo player - plays lots of video file types.
Xweather complete - shows all weather info on one page.
Minimalistic text - somewhat difficult to initially setup but looks good.
Clockr - can you give you the minimal text clock without the setup of mimimalistic text.
Simi clock - good looking widget showing clock, weather and battery.

So far I'm loving the xoom.

The Asus EEe Transformer is suppose to be released this month. It was up initially on Best Buy's website for $400... Very similar specs to the XOOM. It will also have a keyboard dock that comes with a battery itself to help double battery life that can be purchased extra(rumor has it around $100). It also closed like a netbook/laptop with the keyboard attachment unlike the iPad 2(from what I've read).

Early hands on impressions have been very favorable.

I believe it is $400 for tablet and $150 for dock. Does seem pretty sexy, ASUS usually puts out quality products at awesome prices. I'd wait for this before getting a Xoom, personally.

Add me to the new owner list of the Xoom, I ditch my 32gb 1st Gen Ipad about 2 months ago now had nothing for that duration, then got a Nook Color for $100 of one of my good freinds, yes I know great discount. Rooted the Color with Honeycomb and though for a knock off HC it was sweet, so I said the Full version of honeycomb must be so much better.

Sold off the Nook Color Rooted with HC on Ebay with two micro sd cards for an astounding $290. Had $250 left over in my Paypal account from a sale a while back and caught a great deal on the 32gb Wi-Fi Xoom. Came with the official Motorola gel case and a 3 year warranty from the place it was bought from, even cover accidental damage as worth of $149.

I the guy had the Xoom at $610 or best off I offered him $575, he took and now I have the Xoom. I will say that I love it a lot, now coming from and Ipad it is not as polished as the Ipad pad, but I do believe honeycomb has much room to grow and when it does the sky the limit. From both of the cameras to extremely fast web surfing the machine is a work horse. I have a 16gb 10 class micro sd card in the waiting too, so when then send the update to use the Micros sd cards I will even better. Final all in all I give this device, I will be honest and I may not love it as much as I did the Ipad only to to it still being very in young in its HC state, when update roll out and it becomes more stable with HC the I think Apple should worry just a little be, but overall great device. Also the Micro HDMI and extras like that dont hurt it either. The one thing I give the edge to it over the Ipad is the fill fledged customization.

Te ipad is still crushing in sales but once more HC tablets are released and updates roll out to enhance HC, we will see it become tighter.

The biggest concern is post-release support for all these devices.

With Apple you always have a central reference point. With Google being fragmented, it's pretty much up to each manufacturer to take care of updates. Some do it better than others.

I want a Xoom, but will not take the risk associated with these updates. I'd like the device I have continue to gain in feature-set and right now with Moto already planning an update you never know with these companies.

I dealt with this same non-sense in the Pocket PC sector years ago. HP, Dell... always waiting until they released a firmware update that you had no idea if it would happen.

That right there is why Apple is so much more successful right now. Yes, you can ultimately do more on these other devices, but NONE of them have reached the same level of support.

I've messed around with the Xoom a lot at work, and think it's great, but your statement is exactly why I would never get one over the iPad.

Once companies can figure out that it's the support, not necessarily the technology, that keeps Apple so strong, then I believe we will start seeing more direct competition to the iPad/iPhone/iPod, etc.

Word I've been reading is that Google is merging Gingerbread (Android 2.3) and (HoneyComb 3.0) into Ice Cream (Android 2.4)(yes 2.3+3.0=2.4 in this case) for better standardization for phones, tablets and....Google TV.

Apparently this is suppose to be shown/announced at the next Google I/O conference in May.

Didn't last long, I have now had the ipad2 for 3 weeks, thing is amazing, I had the xoom, the ASIs transformer, and have the new galaxy tab 10.1 in my possession right now and its notmreleased until next month, none of them can really compare to what the iPad offers, nothing. Please don't let me here flash either, because even without flash the iPad still dominates, why, one word. APPS.


I don't care what google says they will never catch apple in this catogorey. To me thats all that matters.

If apps are your number one point of interest, yes definitely, go ipad now.

I've had the wifi xoom since it came out and still love it. I bought it over the ipad2 after a month of thinking about it.

I also have an iphone. I know what I'm going to get out of the ios experience. I guess I'm one of the few people that never bought a paid app from the apple appstore and I download few games. Everything I have on my iphone, I have on xoom. I don't miss the appstore or itunes one bit.

The number one selling point for me on the xoom over an ipad was that I don't have to jump through the jailbreak hoops to customize my tablet. For example I'm sick and tired of having to jailbreak and rejailbreak my phone every time a new ios version comes out just to make the lockscreen on the phone show simple info like weather, email, sms, etc (lockscreen jailbroken app). I don't want to go through that pain with another device.

Knew someone close to me who was the google io event and they it to me. I sold it and made a profit.
