R.I.P. Mike Starr (of Alice in Chains)

Sad to hear this about one of the founding members of my favorite band.

One of my favorite bands, too. RIP Mike (though replacing him with Mike Inez was a great move for the band).

Yep, stinks he couldn't overcome addiction. RIP.

I have AIC - Dirt in the vehicle as this was the last album he helped take part in, and what an album it is!

True, Dirt is an all-time classic, but it's not a happy album. Anyone who thinks of using drugs should listen to it.

When I first heard the news that Mike Starr had passed away last night, I thought it was the actor (aka The Gas Man from Dumb & Dumber) and not the musician. Turns out I was wrong.

I feel the connection every time I hear hate to feel, man. Dark album but that song alone helped me make the right choices growing up. I partied, but I never got into any real drugs.

It's too bad Mike, Layne and so many other great musicians couldn't beat the demons. All that talent wasted.

Yeah I hear you, that lifestyle doesn't mix well with addictive personalities..

Sad news indeed. It's too bad that talent like Layne, Mike, and so many others fall victim to drugs. I'm glad the band is in a better place mentally and physically right now, so they can continue making great music. Dirt is one of the if not the best grunge albums ever.

"How do they know, that I got gas?"

It is the life style of a rocker. It is what it is. Growing up as teen I witness so much stuff back stage. Having an older brother that was in that scene and inventually taken his life too, drugs that is. Just sad man. RIP Mike.

Yup... Very few people in big bands don't have addictive personalities. You MUST have an addictive personality to get really good on an instrument. Music is an addiction; especially playing it.

You know I never thought of that. That is a good point.

When I think of all the musicians(not just rockers) who struggled with drugs and alcohol, you're probably right. Look at Miles Davis.
