While the experience is less than the performance of the current heavyweights about to hit the market such as the iPad2 and the Motorola Xoom, this is an EXTREMELY passable option for those that want to have the experience first-hand for as low a price as possible.

I bit the bullet and got this. Was $200 out the door (i had a 15 amazon gift cert). Hoping the rumored software update to make this a tablet later this month actually happens. if not, i'll do the SD card root.

Update: Works just as Pared described. For $215 (Nook + 8GB microSD card) I have a tablet running the Gingerbread OS. (Just remove the memory card to go back to the regular e-reader)

I had ZERO experience rooting a phone or tablet, but it was pretty easy. Maybe 20 minutes.

The next least expensive option is the wifi Galaxy Tab at $350.

I think I remember reading they recently released an official update for it so you didn't have to root and flash it.

They did and while it's a slight improvement, it PALES in comparison to running a genuine Android OS.

The Nook App store is tiny and way OVERPRICED. They are charging $3-5 for apps that are free.

Having access to the android/google marketplace alone makes it worth doing.
