    PC Battery question

So the battery died in my wifes laptop a last week. We bought a replacement battery on amazon and we got it today. I put it in and the computer wouldnt start. It took about an hour then it started up. So I'm thinking ok cool. Well in the icon tray it shows a battery icon with a red x and it says no battery detected. If I pull the cord out the computer shuts off.

So I don't know whats going on here. I am running off the power cord now but couldn't before when the old battery was dead. So it has to be working somewhat to even get the computer started right?

Do i just need to give it time or could I have an issue here.

    Thanks in advance guys.

    Re: PC Battery question

Sounds like you have more of a power supply issue then battery issue. Your power supply connectors inside of the laptop might be shorted out. Which mean eventually you will have to get a new laptop over all.

Because once the power supply inside of a laptop starts to act up it doesn't matter if you put a brand new battery in there or not. Being that the new battery can never get fully charged up.

Basically if you have a your laptop plugged directly into an outlet, it should automatically work, regardless if you have a battery inside of your laptop or not.

So it sounds like you have an internal power supply short circuit going on inside of your laptop. It should never take an hour for a laptop to turn on with a new battery. Even battery that been sitting on a shelf for years would have at least a 50% charge to it.

Well I think I figured out the issue. The new battery's clips that hold it in are a little smaller than my old one. I guess the battery connectors weren't touching enough. Once I gave it a little smack it clicked in right. So now its plugged in and charging. Just hope it holds.

Thats what I was thinking too. Looks like I got it fixed though.
