Re: The Avengers (May 4th, 2012)
I understand that it was optional since Marvel decided to change races with Fury. I could care less about that and understand why Marvel did it. I mean how many Black prominent heroes were/are there? I just don't like SLJ in recent years. Something about his acting style has slipped into "hack" mode. Would have rather liked a no-name.
Wait. What? SLJ gave permission?? Marvel developed a character in the comics AFTER they got permission from HIM?? Makes me a little sad if that's true.Comment

I don't really understand the chronology and how Sgt. Fury became Nick Fury and how he jumped time like Cap.... so maybe somebody can explain it.Comment

Re: The Avengers (May 4th, 2012)
Sgt. Fury was Nick Fury all the time. I'm not too sure on the chronology myself but remember Cap ended up becoming frozen in ice and was re-discovered by the Avengers. Fury lived through the intervening years and became the head of SHIELD. So chronologically and physically Shield is older than Cap but they're contemporaries.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: The Avengers (May 4th, 2012)
This is probably where Marvel blew the timeline. Nick Fury in the 40's would have been 40-50 years old once Cap was thawed. Maybe they should have gone with an offspring back then.
according to wikipedia:
Samuel L. Jackson
Actor Samuel L. Jackson did not originally give his consent for Marvel Comics to use his likeness in their redesign of the Fury character for The Ultimates[9], and first appeared with this revised look in The Ultimates #1, as drawn by Bryan Hitch. The similarity is even noted within the comic itself, in a scene in which the Ultimates discuss who they think should play each of them in a hypothetical movie about the team. Fury's answer for himself is "Mr. Samuel L. Jackson, of course, no discussion." It was only after seeing the redesigned Nick Fury in the first issue of The Ultimates that Samuel L. Jackson learned of the use of his likeness and contacted Marvel in order to secure the role of Nick Fury in any future Marvel movies.

Re: The Avengers (May 4th, 2012)
Well, the way Thor played out, in conjunction with possibly keeping to tradition.....
Then again, we have no Ant-Man/Wasp, which may not translate well to the screen anyway. Looking back you have to admit that if Marvel had to do it over again, would they have connected a heroes like Ant-Man & Wasp and the others.
BTW, regarding the book itself, I found: "A CGC 9.4 copy did sell for $65,100 in 2009 and Very Good 4.0 copies have been on the march in the $800 range."
Best I have is #'s 15 & 16 in my basement, but I doubt they would be rated that highly by CGC.Attached FilesLast edited by daflyboys; 07-18-2011, 11:45 AM.Comment
