And I have less respect for those that don't write their own rhymes...this artform more than any other is dependant on truth. How can "your" truth come from someone else's words?
2pac is my favorite rapper of all time (2nd favorite artist all time behind Michael Jackson). If I am ranking him that high, I obviously don't feel rap is a talentless artform that anyone is capable of.

The prerequisite of being a great rapper is writing your OWN stuff. Rap back in the day was about who was the illest spitter with the dopest lyrics. True enough, you gotta have the entire package (charisma, storytelling, emotion, delivery, hits, etc) to be considered one of the greats, but if a rapper was discovered to have not wrote any of his stuff, and they blew up...it would be considered a MAJOR taboo in the hip hop community.
        Fair enough,

I agree having a ghost writter would be frown upon (many rappers have them now tho)

But lyrics wouldnt out weight all of the other elements IMO..

Part of my original point. Not only was he below-average on the mic, but he didn't even write his stuff. Still an entertaining dude tho...

Not only that but he couldn't rhyme on beat....he had to be punched into his vocals every few bars or so.

I can respect that.. He isnt on my top 5 favorite list, at all, by a good bit. But it seems like hes one of the more influential/key roles in rap.

Just curious, whats your top 5? IMO the top 3 just cant be changed.. but the last 2 are just preference
