No, that isn't what I'm saying. Rap isn't the same as singing where you can have an artist like say...Whitney Houston who didn't write any of her music, but is renown as one of the greatest singers ever. The prerequisite of being a great rapper is writing your OWN stuff. Rap back in the day was about who was the illest spitter with the dopest lyrics. True enough, you gotta have the entire package (charisma, storytelling, emotion, delivery, hits, etc) to be considered one of the greats, but if a rapper was discovered to have not wrote any of his stuff, and they blew up...it would be considered a MAJOR taboo in the hip hop community.

Yeah but songwriters make more money then Singers and they have more weight in the industry.. Heres an example, The Isley Brothers were hot in the 60, 70 and 80, but they fell off, then R kelly wrote songs for them and they came back strong in 2000's...

Beastie Boys are Such a hugehugehugely influential and Important group in hip hop history...However no one is gonna confuse them with being great lyricists..

Recovery is seriously lacking in beats, and Em is off course on some of his collaborations on the album. But I feel in terms of lyrics and sheer rapping ability, that album is top-notch.
