Re: Hauppauge HD PVR video recorder
I have one, and I know Phobia has one.
It's a really simple installation. You run your console AV cables to the box, and then another set of cables to the TV, and then there is a USB cable that runs from the box to the console. It comes with a CD to install the drivers, and capture software. Drivers can be gotten off the official site, but the capture software is only on the install disc. -
Re: Hauppauge HD PVR video recorder
Anyone that wants to capture gameplay. This is the go to device. Amazing piece of hardware and extremely easy to work. Only thing you will need is some editing software. Check out my youtube videos if you want to see video quality. It does up to 1080 but I rather stick with 720 for file sizes to remain smaller. A good external hard drive is a good addition to save all your media to.Comment

Re: Hauppauge HD PVR video recorder
Good to see that the positive impressions I've read elsewhere jive with what I'm reading here.
Out of curiosity, how big do recorded files get? For example, how large would a ten-minute 720P video with sound be, assuming default settings?Comment

Re: Hauppauge HD PVR video recorder
I had a roughly 9 minute video of Brink recorded in 720p at 13.5Mbps and it came out around 880MBs.Comment

Re: Hauppauge HD PVR video recorder
This video is 15 min and is a huge 1.4 gig rendered size.
While this 10 min part was 945meg rendered.
Edit: The pre-rendered sizes are estimates because I am at work and can't see the pre-rendered sizes until I get home. I know they take up tons of space. I transferred 60 gigs of videos over to my external last night and I had maybe 20 videos being moved. So that is a rough average of around 3 gigs a video.Last edited by Phobia; 05-20-2011, 02:54 PM.Comment

I have one as well, use it for RB videos and what not. It works pretty well.

Re: Hauppauge HD PVR video recorder
so are there any framerate issues or lag issues online when running this thing and playing?Comment

Re: Hauppauge HD PVR video recorder
The only lag issues I've found is when I try streaming via this. If there is a lot going on, it can skip a little bit. But just recording I haven't had any major skips or hiccups.Comment

Re: Hauppauge HD PVR video recorder
I just bought this, spent over an hour planning and re-wiring every frickin' thing in my HT setup, and the damn thing won't even turn on.
Before you ask, yes, it's plugged in.
I don't mind exchanging it, aside from the fact that I was just there... but it's going to take another long rearranging just to get cables back the way they were, or at least get the Hauppauge cables back into the box.

If you can press the power button on the front and there's no blue light, something's loose or faulty.Comment

Re: Hauppauge HD PVR video recorder
I'll still be facing dilemmas, though. They give you component cables without audio, which is fine because I'll more than likely be going optical. However, I want to try and do this with both cable and the PS3, and I wanted to try and run it through the receiver first, so then one component cable can run into the back of the PVR (instead of having to switch all of the time). I'm not quite sure how to work the audio in this instance, though... especially since I'll be using two different devices to do this with. The only way I can see this happen is if I buy a third optical cable and continually switch it when I need to. Perhaps I'll have to film my setup so it makes sense.
