Need Help: Trying to connect Xbox360 and PC to net at same time

Just bought a 5-port ethernet hub from radio shack. I've got my modem (has just one port), pc, and xbox 360 hooked into it. The problem is I can't get on the net and log into xbox live at the same time. Any suggestions?

Do you have a hub or a router? You need a router or a switch to be able to have simultaneous internet connections.

You need a router, not a switch (or hub). The vast majority of routers also include a 4 port switch for connecting multiple hardwired devices.

A hub is basically a "dumb" switch, or you could say that a switch is a "smart" hub. Either way, they're both worthless for your purposes without a router to do the complicated work.

You need a router <s>or a switch</s> to be able to have simultaneous internet connections.

Took the switch (wasn't a 'hub'...my mistake) back and got a 4-port router. Everything is working beautifully now! Thanks Guys!.....A different clerk helped me when I went back and told me the switch would only recognize one device as being online at a time.
